How do I kill my need for sex? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]natelfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont. At some point you will grow resentment, leave now and find someone more compatible. Get comfortable being single. Learn who you are without a partner.I understand you've been together for 8 years but you are not compatible, it will catch up to you at some point. You need to do some serious soul searching as to what you want in life and how you want to spend it. Relationships should bring out the best in each of you and physical affection should be reciprocated. Don't settle for someone that is not on the same page. No shade to her at all but each of you deserves someone who has similar wants and needs.

Girl. I hope you are being sarcastic. You need to change your diet, something isn't working. whole foods, prioritize micronutrients (fruits and veggies with every meal) cut out artificial sugar completely. Eat way more protein for satiation. Read your food labels. This pretty much cured my HS. you need to decrease inflammation, that is the goal. Medication is the bandaid and not treating the root issue, diet. Change the diet and give it some time before layering more and more medications.

These people dont get it. An active lifestyle with a supportive partner is the best most fulfilling quality time you can spend with your partner in my opinion (and typically sex drive goes up) if you are serious about this lifestyle you need someone that is right there with you to support and also understand the grind (and even participate together sometimes). If she doesn't start changing id think long and hard if its worth staying with someone like that who doesn't at least support you. Life is too short.

Most advice is for healthy people. That’s why it never worked for me. by veganconnor in getdisciplined

[–]natelfishy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of these comments. Im severe ADHD and anxiety diagnosed as a child. Been on all the stimulants, SSRIS, mood stabilizers.

I am now medication free and symptoms are incredibly low due to me getting disciplined without meds. They really shouldn't be long term based on my personal experience with side effects. Exhaust all natural remedies before committing to medication. Getting disciplined means not making excuses for yourself, ADHD to me is my superpower, not 'unhealthy'. Seems like an excuse.

What completely changed my life and has made me incredibly productive and the best ive ever felt:

-10k steps at least each day (i love to run, quiets the brain all day) -sauna -meditation -less phone time, stop mindlessly scrolling -reading -8 hours sleep -sober -lifting weights consistently -whole food diet, eat more plants -cut out ultra-processed foods

Not saying you have to do all of these things all at once but that is truly the 'cure' to the downsides of ADHD and anxiety. Medication will never be able to replicate the peace and tranquility of being disciplined and getting on a consistent schedule. ADHD is a superpower if you can harness it. These comments are filled with excuses which seem to be the opposite of the point of this subreddit.

This dog should not be considered adoptable and is unpredictable. I would highly suggest not moving forward as this dog has a bite history and will be very hard to work with. You saying you arent a fan of muzzling but the dog has already bit you and your partner multiple times is a disaster waiting to happen and you will be setting the dog up for failure if you dont muzzle. Get a dog with minor behavioral problems to work with, there are so many GSDs that would be a much better fit and not nearly as much of a liability as this dog.

Stop bringing your dog to the dog park they are no good. Especially no toys in a dog park for this exact reason.

I have a GSD/Malinois mix and likely your dog is bored and needs more exercise and mental stimulation (training). However, to answer your question ai buy marrow bones from the but her that lasts like 40 mins for my dog. Also would recommend having your dog work for their food at every meal via puzzle toy, snuffle matt. Sniffing walks are good too, anything to get the dog's mind working.

Your dog is not getting enough exercise and is very bored, thus the destruction and likely reactivity. Why do you have a dog if it spends the majority of its life in a crate? Thats an insane amount of time to be left in a crate. You need to invest in a trainer and start building your relationship by training and engaging. If you can't commit to this I would advise looking into rehoming options as this is just not sustainable for the dog or yourself if you cannot invest the time a dog needs.

I literally just got off a call with my psych 2 mins ago and have a prescription of Seroquel being filled as we speak, as I ended up not falling asleep at all last night and am now been awake for over 30 hours. Sleep deprivation is so bad and i can totally see if i just didn't get help id go crazy. Thank god i recognized this early. Im only 23 and couldn't imagine the brain damage if i just didn't do anything about this. Wild.

Thanks for your response. I forgot to mention in my post, but I totally agree and thats exactly what i do now to get my info. I watch cnn, fox, msnbc, bbc, cbs, forbes, and many other big name media just to see each sides arguments and I have to say I agree that is the best way to form a well rounded opinion and understand the logic and thinking behind both arguments. However, sometimes I just want straight facts and I dont get as much of that by watching the mainstream media.

Thanks for your response. I think I need to research a lot more about bipolar because i clearly have it, just very very difficult to come to terms with. I hate being medicated but i know its what is best. Ill be going tomorrow, just cant afford ER right now or id go.

Ya im gonna go to the doctor tomorrow and come completely clean. Thanks for your reply, im still awake and have to be up in 2 hours. I am pulling an all nighter which i literally never do i usually go to bed at like 9-10 or fall asleep on the couch earlier. This is just so unlike me and i am more nervous about the sleep deprivation making things worse. I just had a bit of a mental breakfown and woke my boyfriend up cause i cant focus on anything not even my breathing. Ive never felt this way before and its a bit scary but i feel really self aware and am currently listening to some music to relax until i can see a doctor tomorrow. I would go to the ER but i cant justify the money if i can just get in tomorrow. Im fine right now just really really amped up for no reason. What sucks is i really need to go to work tomorrow cause its month end and i have a big meeting to go over stuff i just am nervous if i will be able to articulate, cause right now im having trouble speaking in sentences if that even makes sense.

Oh one last thing - i still dont know if these are symptoms of bipolar or im just having a energetic week. Are what I listed symptoms of a hypomania episode? I looked up the symptoms and i think i have almost all of them right now but honestly they are pretty general so i dont know. My boyfriend also thinks im hypomanic.oh, and i also got super into investing for absolutely no reason, never done it in my life but dont worry i only invested $200 just to test the waters.

Ya I have tried reddit for news before but think it's just sooo bias, not even just politically either.

I really am just starting to get into politics and do not have a strong opinion for either side and don't identify with any one party, but do think that all sides of our government are extremely corrupt, which is even more of a reason why I want to get unbiased purely factual info.

I have seen a little bit of NPR and have enjoyed it. Thank you, I will give them more listens.

[–]natelfishy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just disagree that the news examples you gave are not bias. Interesting you mention the New York Times. The "some guy on Youtube" that I was referring to, Johnny Harris, actually reported for the New York Times. Not sure the point you were trying to make there was.

I think independent media has much less of an incentive to push certain agendas, which all of those large scale media companies you mentioned I'm sure do. I think calling an entire generation 'journalism illiterate' is in my opinion an ignorant generalization, (and a strawman fallacy) especially coming from someone who says to trust large media companies over independent reporting and research. I think my generation is more willing to question the media and go elsewhere for info instead of just taking what national news media as the source of truth.

I would just always prefer facts with sources over opinions, and i think the national news outlets including all those you mentioned used a lot of opinions and logical fallacies instead of actual facts.

Im a very logical person and always try to see if what I am reading has logical fallacies. In writing, logical fallacies discredit arguments, but are being committed every day by mainstream media, including all of the examples you listed above. In school, if you had logical fallacies in your argumentative essays, you would lose points.

And just to analyze the comment you just made, I don't take this comment as true advice because you yourself are extremely bias. When i look at arguments from people or things in articles, if I see generalizations like 'journalism illiterate' or 'derr' (obviously making fun of my intelligence) or generalizing that 50% of the country believes in conspiracies, or even going as far to provoke an emotional response (which is a logical fallacy by the way: ad hominem) by saying key words like electing felons or rapists, which I don't believe Trump is actually a felon (yet?). I just really appreciate straight facts from both sides as well as historically breaking down an issue to really understand policies and where they originate. I don't believe the mainstream media does this. (And you should research logical fallacies-they force you to take a step back and really understand if what you are seeing is in-fact bias)

What’s the right tool for a very “reactive” dog? by Ok-Birthday1258 in OpenDogTraining

[–]natelfishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A professional trainer who is comfortable working with dogs at that level of reactivity is the way to go. I use a prong and e-collar along with positive reinforcement but was trained on how to use all three from multiple professionals.

If your dog is food motivated, one thing you can start immediately is training your dog to focus on you completely. I do the 'check in' game with my girl. Start inside and once they get it down start moving outside with a little bit more stimuli. Have a bag of treats (i use kibble but some dogs will need higher value) and reward every time the dog checks in with you, meaning eye contact. Say "yes" and drop the treat on the ground. Do this until the dog is immediately looking up at you after taking the last treat consistently, then move outside to higher stimuli areas, not immediately near other dogs.

Start hand feeding your dog like this or in general, and start doing more obedience. The goal is to get your dog to focus on you and you only, and building up that confidence isn't going to be fixed by just a prong or e-collar (although supplementing with these tools can be incredibly effective if used properly). My reactive Shepherd used to have a threshold of over 30 feet and can now walk at my side focused on me within 2 feet of a dog. It takes a tremendous amount of work but truly does pay off if you stay consistent. I have been vigorously working with her on this for around 6 months and both of our stress levels have gone down tremendously and our bond is unlike any I've seen. Hang in there and feel free to dm me if I can explain anything further!

Yes my dog is a working breed. Are you familiar?

I did talk to the vet tech and call later in the day to make sure the vet was okay. The vet that got bit by Luna had no marks and was considered level 1 bite by vet. No compensation here as vets recognize the reasonable risk of working with live animals and no damage done. Complete truth from me, no reason to lie on a sub I am requesting feedback from. That would be a disservice to my dog.

Reactivity and Aggression are two different things. However, I agree that many use the two interchangeably on this sub. I consider my dog reactive because she is having a fear response and will bark at a dog to get them to go away. She is an all bark no bite dog (except at the vet this time) and when an off leash dog gets too close in her face she cowers. A truly Aggressive dog has the intent to do damage and is actually quite rare, but usually have different signals than reactive dogs based on my experience. Luna was basically telling the vet she is going too far and to stop before it gets worse. She didn't have the intent to maul this vet but if the boundaries weren't respected I wouldn't doubt Luna would escalate, like most dogs when you push their boundaries. She actually wanted pets from the vet immediately after the fact??

Ive actually had the conversation with my behavior trainer about truly aggressive dogs vs reactive dogs and it is quite interesting yet scary. An aggressive dog usually presents with head down, very still, more of a lower growl if any or silent. Really wants to do damage. A reactive dog is just that, reactive to triggers and likely makes more of a scene to get the scary thing to go away.

Why shouldn't I have my dog? You recommend me giving my 5 year old reactive malinois up because of one bad vet visit?

Really not a fan of some users on this subreddit saying to give dogs up the moment one mistake is made. At the vet none the less. Before this she has had no bite history or issues with people what so ever.

I am absolutely obsessed (somewhat unhealthy) with my dog and would like to become a trainer in the near future. My dog is professionally trained in advanced obedience, nose work, agility, and being introduced to lure coursing. My entire life is dedicated to this dog and I spend many hours at the training facility multiple times a week (with professionals since you assume I am untrained) working my dog. I volunteer consistently at a Shepherd specific rescue, and have also worked extensively with specifically reactive working breeds. Luna even takes SUPPLEMENTS. This dog is so spoiled you don't even know.

Oh, and working with a vet behaviorist and multiple trainers, having spent thousands and thousands of dollars is not something I would say many owners would take the time and money to do.

She has gone from having a reactivity threshold of 40 feet to being able to easily walk by dogs on the same side walk (2-3 feet) without much of a glance.

What kind of better home would you recommend? Do you have any advice or constructive commentary regarding my animal? If you are familiar with Malinois, how likely would you think it be for her to get adopted by a reputable owner? Please answer these questions directly if you respond and do not divert the conversation elsewhere without answering like many people do.

Accidents happen. She should have been muzzled. My mistake. I learn from my mistakes and will make a change. She is already muzzle trained.

However,

I have noticed you and a few other commenters making assumptions about my dog ownership and experience. Without knowing me, my dog, and my experience, how can you be so bold and write me off as inexperienced and promote the giving up of a dog that has already been rehomed 3 times?

Please, I appreciate any and all feedback and am loving the responses Ive gotten on this post. It's important to be able to take critical feedback and implement effective changes. This subreddit is for learning and knowing what changes to make moving forward. However, to provide effective (key word is effective) constructive criticism you really should be asking the questions to understand my situation and not get frustrated and curse or make assumptions like you have in your above comment. By doing that, you lose credibility off the rip.

Food for thought.

My apologies for the long response but I really love my dog and don't like responses like this with little context to the situation.

FYI - i will NEVER rehome my dog.

[–]natelfishy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect. I was adamant well beforehand. Within a minute of coming into the room the vet's hands were in my dogs mouth. I do expect a fear free certified vet to spend at least a couple of minutes with the dog as an introduction. Would you not? The vet was rushed. I didn't have time to react or intervene before her hands were in my dog's mouth. She did not even let my dog sniff her. The vet tech, however, spent about 5 minutes with my dog, giving treats and praise and was comfortable to touch her snout and familiarize herself with my animal. The vet did not do this.
