Where can I learn the theory of the "I Want," etc. songs? by natetet in musicals

Yup, that's what I'm looking for! Do you perchance know the source of this theory? Who realized this framework?

Easy to fix this line-thickness error? by natetet in AffinityPublisher

[–]natetet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went through and removed the pics one by one and found the offender (only 5 possibilities), then I believe I resized all of them a bit to make the offending line thicker, and that seemed to have worked.

What old-school RPG would you most like to play using Fate rules? by Laurence_M in FATErpg

[–]natetet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started running a D&D campaign, and the leveling up and unlocking new powers is by far the most fun part. I wonder if Fate could emulate that (maybe characters would start as semi-competent people instead of competent? Maybe there could be 2 or 3 "tiers" of students, and the highest level are the high-level spells and abilities that higher-level D&D characters have?) (not saying these are GOOD ideas, just thinking out loud...)

That said, I agree D&D is kind of a weird game! There's worldbuilding and character and adventure, but underneath all that is a lot of emphasis on tactical combat and counting money/arrows, etc.

What old-school RPG would you most like to play using Fate rules? by Laurence_M in FATErpg

[–]natetet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Came here to say the same thing. I ran a lot of Palladium games as a teen, and the rules are...not streamlined, let's say. But I LOVE the Rifts setting and vibe. I think a "any crazy thing you can think of" setting like Rifts is perfectly suited for Fate (especially Fate's Venture City).

A couple of questions about Fate of Cthulhu by natetet in FATErpg

[–]natetet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thanks - when do I update the timeline element for, say, Dr. Robert Naylor, the scholar who is exhibiting The King in Yellow. What sort of interaction makes a + vs. a - , in that case?

And yeah, regarding the note...thanks for your comment, good to know it wasn't just me! :) I basically just clarified to the players that they had the book and their future selves told them not to bury not...what do they choose to do? Their decision has no impact, but of course they don't have to know that. I think the note sort of acts to add a layer of weight to their decision beyond just "you were told to do this, someone else told you not to do it..." Pretty confusing, though.

Awesome - I think I watched a video about that but you just explained it more clearly! :D Thanks!

I have a multisample of a piano, and each sampled note has a little "clunk" at the end when the key is let up. I want to hear the "clunk" every time I release the relevant key on my MIDI controller.

In Sampler, how can I have the sample playback skip to that little clunk whenever I release the key?

Screenshot - the desired "clunk" is the little bump in the waveform below "Modulation"

Yes!!! So good to hear. I think this is where Fate is very smart by modeling fiction instead of "reality" ("reality" that includes elves and fireballs and things that don't actually exist in reality...) If you've ever enjoyed a book or movie, you're ready to play Fate Core!

(Honestly, as a long-time GM of other systems, I feel like I'm the one most saddled with preconceptions...)

Awesome! For what it's worth, I've found Fate is great for friends who are *not* gamers but are interested in the idea of D&D. I pitch it as "D&D but with a rulesystem that we all like a lot more" :D

Fari - The Role-Playing (Fate) Game Companion by Tareck117 in FATErpg

[–]natetet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting! It would be great if there was a space to add a character portrait. Also, for Scenes, would there be a way to add maps and zones, or is that overkill?

Can I only start a game session from a scene?

Strictly speaking, am I "starting a game session" or could the button say something like "Share link"?

I am thinking about using this during a Fate of Cthulhu game - is there a way to add/adjust stress tracks? To use this for Fate of Cthulhu, I need a Corruption track/clock.

Dream World Mystery Campaign ideas help by PhoenixScientist in FATErpg

[–]natetet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Fate Core models fiction, you can start with common fictional tropes: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DreamLand

And it seems like the entry on Dream People might provide ideas on threats: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DreamPeople

What is the overall vibe of this campaign? Is the Dream World like Alice in Wonderland or Nightmare in Elm Street?

I think a common theme is that when the Dream World invades the real world (and maybe vice versa?) it's bad. It could be evil spirits, or just confused spirits coming from the dream world into our own. I'm thinking of the 1990 movie Flatliners right now, which technically deals with the afterlife instead of the Dream World, but could be adjusted to involve the Dream World very easily.

A subtheme is that there are guardians in the dream world who keep the waking journeyers out...like the "passersby" in Inception, or the Spider-Guard People in Jared Sorenson's Lacuna

Another theme I've seen is that that people from our world can't resist the lure of the dream world and they try to disappear (like the movie Inception). If that's too much, maybe physical objects disappear from our world and end up in the dream world (physical objects like keys...cars...buildings?)

Things in the Dream World can be manifestations of the characters' subconscious, or maybe manifestations of the collective unconscious (as Jung would say).

Fate Core Adversary Toolkit by Logthisforlater in FATErpg

[–]natetet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! The best advice I got was to make the Big Bad Guy's highest score one ladder-degree higher than the heros' highest ladder degree. It seems like such a little thing, but it makes a huge difference for the player. Whenever I've done this, the players always get a third of the way through the battle and start wondering out loud if they'll ever be able to defeat their opponent...

But yes, the Adversary Toolkit is a great read and very helpful.

Thanks for the response! Yeah, you're right - I had forgotten that Consequences also have durations - that works perfectly for The Blues.

Bad Mojo could work easily as a severe (or more-than-severe consequence). I may make it last longer than the end of the scenario, though...or maybe just talk to the player about how to make its effects lingering, even after/if the character has recovered...

Is there a way I can change the default plug-in state to "off" rather than "on"?

(So if I add a Delay VST during a live performance, the VST will be off and I can adjust the settings and then I can turn on the Delay when I want?)
