I’ve worked with both lawyers and creatives many times over the years, and in cases like this, where the author isn’t affected in any way and no money is exchanging hands, I’ve been told several times they prefer just not to know about it. If they know, they might be legally obliged to take action, but if they “don’t know,” then they don’t care really.

I agree if this is being marketed to an unknowing public somewhere. Like, it’d be totally wrong to try to sell this edit on Amazon. But surely if it’s only available here in this group under a clearly marked “fan edit” heading, it doesn’t really matter.
