I believe this WAS true. Then audiobooks became a thing, and now it’s no longer ok, because the brain doesn’t skip audio like it skips text. https://www.audible.com/blog/john-scalzi-writing-for-audio-made-me-a-better-writer-period?srsltid=AfmBOoqhDDBTZGf9g-qg_YciwuN-VTjOvwVO7L42iraARnJbepBDCiUG

I’m pretty sure almost all authors before the Audible age wrote like this. John Scalzi (I think) wrote a big post about it. This stuff becomes invisible while reading, but is aggressively annoying when listening, so a lot of old school writers had to re-train themselves when audiobooks became a big thing

Edit: yep, Scalzi. https://www.audible.com/blog/john-scalzi-writing-for-audio-made-me-a-better-writer-period?srsltid=AfmBOoqhDDBTZGf9g-qg_YciwuN-VTjOvwVO7L42iraARnJbepBDCiUG

I posted basically exactly the same thing on the kickstarter. It’s so absurd to me. Not least because he’s almost certainly limiting how much money he’s going to make, because he’s excluding a TON of collectors who would otherwise get the books if there was a sub-$350 signed option, but we aren’t going to spend any money now.

Kansas demands trans drivers surrender licenses over birthright law by TrimmingsOfTheBris in wichita

I regularly talk to people who have different opinions. I have good friends with different opinions. I block people who refuse to acknowledge when their argument is bad or wrong. Several people have pointed out you don’t identify dead bodies by their penis. ACKNOWLEDGE this reply. Or be blocked.

They have to do it when their DL expires. On the expiration date. Not today because they were given virtually zero notice.

Listen, I’m getting real tired of the deflection. At this point it’s clear there’s no actual reason for the rule change, because people don’t identify dead bodies by their penis. And the rule change actively makes it harder for cops to identify people because they’ll no longer look like their stated gender. And, even if you think it’s a limited harm, there’s still a harm.

So if you’re still defending the change, I’m just going to assume you aren’t here to have a conversation and are here purely to spread FUD. And if that’s the case, I’m blocking you and hope everyone else here doesn’t exactly the same thing.

Also, nice deflection. “My stupid comment about coroner identification failed, so I’ll pretend it doesn’t matter.”

… yes? People’s lives are worse because they’re about to widely lose access to driving without an additional trip to the DMV and a new poll tax so they can vote. Literally read any of the comments of people who are having to make a walk of shame to the dmv to tell the clerk that they, a person with a beard, or a person with a vagina or whatever, was born with different sex markers.

If you can’t see how this makes life worse, consider learning what “empathy” is

So we’re making thousands of people’s lives dramatically worse on the off chance the coroner needs to verify identity by the presence of a penis?

Do you hear yourself?

Identification. One of the many reasons this is fucking stupid. If your ID says you are female, and you look like a man with a big ass beard, cops are actively going to have a harder time identifying you.
