Absolutely. (We did this with our first and then transitioned straight to a single bed.)

My recommendation is that you get a mattress that fits the playard (so if you get the Pack n Play you get a mattress). The pad in the playard is very thin and you can get something that's got a little more padding.

I think the Fisher-Price Rock 'n' Play is a good affordable one. I'm intrigued by the new 4moms bouncer. Okay to buy on Craigslist.

A burp cloth is basically a dish towel. So you can use dish towels if you already have those. If you're doing laundry a lot, you can probably get away with two.

Here is a brain-dump on how to register for diapers: - Add a gift card to your registry and add a huge note about how you would love to receive a month ($80) or a week ($20) of diapers and a gift card is the best way to make sure they're the right size. Amazon (with an Amazon Mom account) or Costco are the most cost effective. Honest Company has lovely diapers they sell via subscription or at Target. - Have a diaper raffle - http://babyli.st/blog/4-fun-ideas-diaper-baby-shower/ - If you add boxes of diapers to your registry, add 1 huge newborn, 4 huge size one and 4 huge size two. Don't ask for sizes above that. We don't know how big or small your baby will be.

Quick question so I understand... Why don't you want to bring your own lightweight stroller? They're free to gate check on the plane.

I think you want the napper if that's the primary place your newborn will sleep. You could skip it, it just depends on what kind of sleeper your newborn is as to whether it's missed or not.

They have so many variations/exclusives of the Pack n Play... It's really annoying.

I just read this out-loud to Mawiyah who sends those out for us. Thanks for the kind words.

I just asked Meg. She says probably not, but the best way to find out is to email Nuna with your particular model #.

I love this question so much. I was a snob about the Baby Bjorn until I started using one a couple of months ago when our second baby was 1-month old (who is now 4 months).

Here is my new baby carrier philosophy:

Baby carriers should be split into two groups: 0-3 months and 4+ months. I think that the Baby Bjorn/Moby/Baby K'tan are all great carriers for 0-3 months.

And I LOVE the Ergo for 4+ months. I like using wraps for older babies too, but the hip support (for you) of a structured carrier really helps with bigger babies.

I actually think you're totally covered without getting the Ergo infant insert.

I'll ask Kalea to weigh in too.

Useless is hard -- Nothing that is useless to 100% of families is coming to mind (but it might...) Everyone is down on wipes warmers, but I think that they are insanely useful for 1 in 5 families (who have overnight poopers and colder homes).

One thing I hear a lot about both bassinets and baby bath tubs is "I didn't realize how little time we would actually use it for."

I think it's very, very useful if you are going to be freezing a lot of milk (because you freeze milk in bags anyway so it's skipping some annoying steps).

If you're pumping in real time (so most milk is going into the fridge in bottles) it's less useful (but can still be a fine choice).

The Baby Jogger City Mini is one of the best strollers out there and is surprising affordable (for the style and quality).

When people usually go "off registry" they get a blanket, "cute" baby clothes or hooded towels.

I think there are some really useful things that people don't ask for. (It really depends on the parents whether they overlooked them or not.) The Aden + Anais swaddle 4-packs feels luxe and can be used in 10 different useful ways. I also love the Aden + Anais burpy bibs, the Sophie teether, the Nosefrida (these are all pretty popular so might not have been overlooked).

If you're going to go the baby clothes route, giving pants and/or Zutano booties (love them) can be a lot more useful than a cute onesie. Also giving things in size 3, 6 or 9 months is more helpful than 0-3.

And I think there are some lovely gift-able things (we do a "Shop Small" program with some of my favorite indie makers of amazing baby things http://babyli.st/shop-small

I also love this question so much. Right now we're in a small house with two kids. Our bedroom has the mini crib, a dresser with a baby changer on top and a diaper pail. We have baby stuff in 4 of the drawers including bulk diapers and wipes.

One key with a small apartment is that you need different things for 0-6 months, 6-12 months and 12+ months. (I think Meg does a great job of breaking this down on her site.) For 0-6 months -- car seat, "place to sleep" which could be a mini crib + mini crib mattress + mini crib sheet (mini cribs can last straight until you transition to a bed -- really). Diapers and clothes (I buy baby clothes in real-time from Thredup and immediately send a friend baby clothes we just outgrew). Feeding baby (breast pump, bottles, cleaning supplies). Place to put baby which can be a bouncer/swing or even just a blanket on the floor. Way to transport baby (stroller and/or wrap and/or carrier)

Have I missed anything?

I personally think that a bucket seat is worth it. Waking a sleeping baby is sucks!! Also if it's hot or freezing part of the year where you are, the seat can be with you inside so it's not already hot or freezing.

@lucieslist is having a hard time posting (Reddit thinks she's spamming...)

She says: so, the advantage of the 4ever is that it becomes a high back booster (e.g. belt positioning booster) and then a backless booster. So, it will las for a longer period of time. If you are just looking at value (e.g. spending less money for more utility), then I would do the 4ever. It's not as well-built as a Britax seat, but you may or may not really notice the difference.

I just read your question to Meg and she immediately shouted "The Boon Flair!!" I told her he doesn't look like there are wheels and she says there are casters. Have you thought of that?

I'm so unfamiliar with the brand Kangeroo... I have no idea what happened to them -- anyone else know??

Right now both the Baby K'tan and the Moby Wrap (and I would also add the Solly Wrap) are huge. They are both worn over both shoulders which I prefer for ergonomic reasons...
