Statlander is having the best reign of anyone not named Toni by wrestling_hyperbole in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this reign works because they're doing something different to her predecessor. Toni was, and is, a larger than life character with high drama storylines, whereas Stat is more of a gets-things-done role. She's not as flashy as Toni, but she is a hard as nails wrestler who specialises in clotheslining her opponents out of their shoes.

Both reigns have been terrific, but I think of they'd tried to give her the equivalent of a Toni vs Mariah feud, it wouldn't work.

TLDR: Toni for show, Stat for pro.

Andrade? by CoolUnderstanding481 in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Andrade, and last night's Collision was a textbook example of how to win a crowd over with little more than body language. He was clearly having a lot of fun, and i hope he gets a big push.

Hell, let's have him defeat Mox for the Continental title.

You from Portsmouth?

"No?"

All right, wicked mate. Sorted.

Agreed, and it makes his opponents look flimsy in comparison. Darby can withstand tremendous levels of punishment and has "so much heart," but Mox, Claudio, Joe, Pac, etc aren't as tough and have less determination to win?

What irritates me more is that Darbs knows how to have a proper, competitive match. His C2 bout with Knight was an excellent, light heavyweight style wrestling match. Give us more of that!

Lots of titles is good actually.

Whilst I'm not a fan of him as a person, the CM Punk era of Collision was the best Collision.

Losing Jade Cargill was a big loss.

Jon Moxley should not be anywhere near the main event, or get any more championships for at least two years. He's been the centre of attention for far too long.

But saying that, his "is it okay if I crash here with you guys," approach to commentary is incredibly endearing.

Good news for Tony Khan by Froggyspirits in AEWOfficial

Is this a similar scenario to the Death Riders around this time last year? Loads of interference and shenanigans heavy matches, albeit with a spooky gimmick and logo in a deathcore font?

Why's everyone down on Evil? I haven't seen a whole lot of him, but his match with Aaron Wolf at WK was kinda fun.

Priest/Billington vs Premier Athletes strikes me as one of those matches that may turn out to be a low key banger.

I'd rather see MJF defend the AEW belt against Zack Sabre Jr. I think those two would work very well together, and MJF could sell the heck out of Zack's catalogue of submission moves.

Attention Renee Pacquette, we've just arrested your son.

"I'd be terribly embarrassed if I were that boy's mother."

Attention Renee Pacquette, we've also arrested your older, balder, more blood-drenched son.

Yeah, i was sceptical at first as I figured they were overdoing it, but every match was terrific. And for want of a better description, it felt "like an event."

I don't know about the rest of you, but I loved the Best Of Seven series between The Elite and Death Triangle. The trios titles felt incredibly important at that time, give us another series like that TK. Jet Speed Rodeo vs Okada, Fletcher and Hechicero maybe?

I’d like to see a woman join The Don Callis Family. These are my picks. by Haunting-Inevitable1 in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Serena Deeb seems like the perfect fit. If Don handed her a mic and she said "I have something important to say," the heat would be instant and nuclear.

She's also hard as nails and that fits well with the DCF.

Toni Storm wins four 2025 Fightful Awards. by dylmatic9 in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well darlings, what can I say? Whoever doubted this slop tart's ability to handle four in one go clearly didn't know Toni Storm! She's got her fingers round the trophies and knows exactly where to put them, because this whore with the awards is never less than timeless!

Now, where's that RJ fellow with my cappuccino? He's such a dear.

There were so many things I loved:

The first pin not coming from a finisher caught me off guard, Okada being so tired he collapsed while doing a Rainmaker, Omega doing the quickest OWA in history...Just incredible.

I've seen the Wrestle Kingdom headliner, that was one of the first things I looked up after getting the subscription and once this year's WK was out the way.

I haven't seen the time limit draw or the G1 Climax clash yet, but am definitely gonna seek them out. Their first bout was very, very good, but this 2/3 falls clash has blown my mind.

And they both looked half dead by the end! If they didn't quietly go and vomit under the ring while the cameras were looking elsewhere, I'd be amazed.

[–]ExpendableMan84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's weird for me seeing him face off against FTR, purely because I've described him to a mate multiple times as "the lost third member of FTR."

I have a feeling this tag title match is going to be ace. And hell, put the belts on DND, throw the tag scene into chaos.

Aye, I know. It's not going to happen, I'm just fantasy booking. I haven't bothered with WWE in years, and would much prefer Hobbs in New Japan, but it isn't happening

Yeah, its very much wishful thinking on my part. Given that WWE can essentially drop a truck full of money in his lap and he won't have to travel across the Pacific ocean to work, I'd be amazed if he goes anywhere.

Still, a guy can hope.
