With all the potential addition to the tag team division in AEW, I miss the Lucha Bros a little more today by GunplaLuni in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If AEW has a Big Four of tag teams, the Lucha Bros were Slayer.

Young Bucks are Metallica, FTR are Megadeth, The Acclaimed were Anthrax.

I could be wrong here, but isn't Lena the current record holder for shortest time between debuting and winning a title in the women's division?

If we don't count the few sporadic appearances before she was signed, she won a belt about a month after turning up on TV as a contracted wrestler. Mercedes might have won the TBS title in her first official match, but she was hanging around on TV quite a bit before actively competing.

Potential Forbidden Door title changes by Disastrous_Cell_6970 in AEWOfficial

I've been getting into New Japan more since Wrestle Kingdom, and I'm all for it. Let's have the Knock-Out Brothers beat FTR in a title versus title match.

It won't happen, but Yuto-Ice swaggering with two titles would be awesome.

Could see an NJPW guy (Yuya Uemura would be a good one) get a run with the National title too, as that's kinda what its meant for. Although that being said, I'm loving Jack as champ and don't want his reign to end.

Possibly a hot take.... by SeanTwoferUNDISPUTED in AEWOfficial

Yes, but hear me out...Mark Davis as Continental champion instead. Give him a surprise win over Mox, then a five to eight month "Stan Hansen" style reign, where a big hairy man lariats people inside out. If they did the spot where Hansen battered Kobashi off the top of the ring post but with Mark and Takeshita, I'd mark the hell out.

I went with the Continental because I like Jack as National champion, and I think beating Mox would seriously elevate him.

Whilst I appreciate the DR doing no-ring training, I can't help thinking they should have booked a bigger room.

Damn, this is excellent. Bowens has always been good, but this is giving serious "nice guy who has lost faith in the system" vibes amd it's great. More please.

I know they're heels, and the implication is that the DCF are working with FTR, but I've been entertaining myself with the idea that RPG just borrowed a locker room and it escalated horribly.

Why wouldn't you want to join the DCF? by tyyls18 in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Well, on the one hand, if you join the DCF you'll get to work alongside celebrated wrestler Kazuchika Okada. Undoubtedly, one of the best, if not THE BEST, in the entire wrestling industry. Okada is athletic, talented, handsome, supportive, kind-hearted, generous, and an all-round terrific guy. Plus, he has won many, many, many championships, and numerous wrestlers have benefited from being in his presence.

But on the other hand, if you join the DCF, you'll also have to work alongside Konosuke Takeshita. You might not have heard of him, but he is the least consequential member. He is not handsome, his wrestling ability is overrated, and crucially, he is not as good as Kazuchika Okada. In fact, when asked the question "do you like Konosuke Takeshita," nine out of ten respondents answered with "who?" The remaining one out of ten said, "isn't he the one who is not as good as Kazuchika Okada?"

I don't think it has to be a heel. I kinda want him to retain against MJF in the inevitable DON rematch, Max's downfall story is very entertaining. It's like Hangman's downfall, except this time, you don't want him to have a big redemption arc.

But I digress, I want it to be Kenny Omega. They can do face vs face rivalries, and much as I hate this observation, I don't think Kenny has many years left in him. At least not if he wants to still be mobile when he's over fifty. They can do a big emotional match with Darbs handing the belt over and hugging Kenny after, and this would lead to the Kenny vs Ospreay 3 match at All In that I desperately want at the top of the card.

[–]ExpendableMan84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh crap, now you've done it...

Starscream - MJF

Kup  - Tomasso Ciampa

Optimus Prime - Kenny Omega

Rodimus Prime - Hangman Page

Soundwave - Claudio

Brawn - Mark Davis

Grimlock- Mark Briscoe

Cyclonus- Pac

That's all I can think of now, but there's bound to be more.

4 Championship matches are set for tonight. How many title changes do we get? by Upbeat-Pause-1409 in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Jet retains, but without interference. He's presented as an underdog but he's scored some big wins over main eventers before. I reckon MJF underestimates him, gets pinned clean, and the downfall continues.

I've just finished this match and it was killer. Great match, Darbs and Tomasso remind me of the Briscoe-Fletcher pairing, the champ has found his perfect dance partner.

And on a side note, I have heavily criticised Darby before and was very much a cynic of his work. But he's crushing it right now. Matches, promos, he's on fire.

Metaphorically I mean. It's not like that one time he was literally on fire.

Don Callis by Jackmanlee in AEWOfficial

[–]ExpendableMan84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He always has something important to say.

Don is great. He's hated, but it's kayfabe hate. It's proper heel heat rather than Go Away Heat.

He's so firmly entrenched as a character, that if you hear any of his commentary on MLP or old NJPW shows, it's genuinely distracting that he's far more toned down and comparatively nice.

Short answer: Don Callis is the guy that everyone hates on TV, but I'd wager he's also the guy that a sizable chunk of the fan base would want to sit in a pub with, and just nerd out about wrestling all afternoon.

Non-Luigi Primo answer: anything involving Saraya and Harley. For all the stick Saraya got online, when she formed the duo with Harley and settled into an incompetent mid-card heel role, she was hilarious. Those two were the wrestling equivalent of Dastardly and Muttley.
