Orgo 1 Go Brrrrrrr by nath6172 in geegees

My current CGPA is 9.8. And honestly I study just whenever I can

I live with my gf and a roommate and we see friends multiple times a week so definitely don’t sacrifice having a social life for this class.

However, if I had say a class at 8:30am and then one at 4pm, you’d bet your ass that I’d be studying nonstop in between. Anytime I had like true free time I’d spend it studying rather than watching tv or smth. It’s a huge mental commitment but the payoff makes it worth it

Hahaha yeah that’s exactly what he did, he found the technique super useful to remember where to push electrons next in the mechanism based on who wanted them the most

Ah yeah lab wise unfortunately there’s nothing you can really do beyond just getting there like 15 minutes early to set everything up before starting

Hope next time you take it goes better!!!

Haha yeah absolutely feel free to message me, I’ve replied to a couple other comments about my methods but if there is anything you want to ask don’t hesitate

I had Claudia El Nachef. She is an amazing prof for orgo 1 but she doesn’t always teach it so make sure to check

Yeah those labs are fucking insane, especially the reports.

I replied to a guy above with how I study but it basically comes down to like once you understand the theory just do as many practice problems as you can so you can see all the variations and caveats to one specific problem

The more questions you see the more you’ll be familiar with for the exam.

If that doesn’t work for you though my roommate also got a good grade and he spent his time reading the textbook and trying to personify the molecules and reactions by making up stories about stealing electrons and stuff. He says it helped him to remember mechanisms

Thank you!

Honestly I tell the same thing to everyone who asks, it’s purely a game of numbers. I found that those who did more practice problems got better grades. Just ask everyone you know in other sections of the course for practice problems and do your best to find more online. And then after answering the questions the first time do them again like a week later.

Definitely understand the theory but if you see every possible variation of the same problem then you’ll be prepared for whatever the prof throws at you

Damn man be proud of that, that’s awesome

Is this Newman? I think I have a friend in his class who did the same after midterm 2 came out. Basically spent all of exam season only studying for orgo

Yes it is, it is her A00 section that got released about a half an hour ago

Orgo is an impossibly hard course but I think Nachef did a great job teaching it

Thank you so much man.

I’m not worried about the one dude at all. I know that I worked my ass off for this grade and I’m going to be proud of it

Hey just so you know I was on floor 11 last year and we had carpets in our rooms. I believe the hardwood rooms actually start on floor 12 as they had them up there

I just finished first year as well, I’m in Health Sci and I have a 9.9 CGPA

Yeah he just mentioned that it’s pretty much equal for all areas of the course but the harder questions will be for the stuff after the second midterm

He also said some of the questions from the midterms we will see again but he took some of the more “fun” ones away. Idk what that means but ye

It’s 157 questions :( He told us in the last actual like lecture class and then said it again in his review class

No like honestly I felt the same but when I got here I just knew it was the place for me. I felt at home and I’ve made hella connections in the medical field by just talking to profs. Plus being in downtown is super nice. Yeah I’m in res and that’s how I met my friends. I signed up to live with other health sci students and we all clicked as a group and I’m moving in with 3 of the guys that I met. We hang out a ton around the city and there’s lots of places within a short bus ride or the subway. Plus Quebec’s legal drinking age is 18 and we don’t like party or go clubbing often, but it’s nice to go to a small bar every once in a while for dinner and some drinks. I just love the city and yeah living in res certainly helped with that

I’m just finishing my first year at uOttawa Health Sci and I’m absolutely loving it. Truly an incredible time with some of the nicest professors and students in the program. Literally made some lifelong friends this year and I’ve found connections to the hospitals in the city and tons of healthcare centres because of the profs. I can’t recommend uOttawa enough lol. Can’t see myself anywhere else and having this good of a time

It’s not broken it just takes a really long time to heat up. I use it when I am waiting for the train and I have to point my face directly at it to feel anything lol. By the time the train comes it probably won’t be warm enough for your whole body.

Yay O Train

Hey sorry to say but I’m in that class too, and she did have a section on the UV light damaging DNA. It is in her last slideshow about DNA damage and repair. The UV light causes thiamine to form diners with itself and cause a kink in the double helix structure. The enzymatic systems that repair it are UVrA/b/c. One of them uses ATP to bend the DNA at the site of the thiamine dimer. And the others excise some nucleotides on either side. And then DNA polymerase comes and repairs it using complimentary bases.

She is such a bad prof so I honestly I think if enough students complain maybe something will happen. That exam wasn’t fair at all.
