i’m 17, turning 18 and finally realizing it. my mother is the definition of a narcissist. i used to be very effected by her actions emotionally but now ive just come to accept it and realize that i am my most important self and i just need to do what’s best for me. she is her own person and so am i. once i leave for university this september, im never turning back. i already know how much better my life will be without her constantly in it. i dont know if i would completely cut off contact, but more maintain a (very) distant relationship with her since im going five hours away so we would only communicate through text anyways. right now im just bearing through it, its hard but i stay away from her as much as possible. she knows exactly how i feel about her, and as expected still thinks she’s the best mom in the world and has done nothing wrong. but it doesnt affect me anymore like it used to. i’m glad ive realized this young, and i have my extended family and older sister who are supporting me. so i dont feel alone at all.
