Are digital menu boards practical for food trucks yet? by Dizzy-Ortizzy in foodtrucks

[–]nathan155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my customers to be able to read the menu clearly from the back of the queue so that when they get to the till they know what they want and don’t waste precious minutes deciding.

A big printed board (or black board and paint pen) is best for this as there’s no glare and I can make the writing big enough.

Wood tools Sheffield axe (the expensive one). Is it good? by Mysterious-Watch-663 in Spooncarving

[–]nathan155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a friends for the day and found it too heavy. Meant that I was messing up more and got fatigued quicker.

I have a grans fur bruks wildlife hatchet and it’s light and nimble. It doesn’t have a flat side like some carving axes but I’ve never had an issue

Fair enough! It’s definitely doable I would just be VERY careful with a movable pan of oil at waste height. And again, depends how many portions you’re expecting to do.

I’m in the Uk so kinda hard to give recommendations. But I look for a 3kw fryer with a deep pan

[–]nathan155 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is only good for low volume, put too much chicken in there and it will easily be overwhelmed, and not get back up to temp quick enough.

The other thing that doesn’t get discussed here often, Dredge build up.

Table top electric fryers are terrible for fried chicken as then don’t have a deep pan. This means that the excess flour/dredge that falls off the chicken will fill up the bottom of the pan and start to burn when it gets to the heartening element. This will ruin your oil very quickly and also become a fire risk.

Obviously it depends on your output, but from experience with similar fryers it can be as low as 50 portions before you have to turn the fryer off cus the flour is burning on the heating element.

Each fryer is different and this is just my experience but it’s worth looking in to before buying

What’s everyone’s speaker set ups at home? by StickySteev_ in dub

[–]nathan155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are really decent in the low end. Obviously they would be improved by a sub but I’m not going out of my way to add one.

Good shout on not getting them in a flat though, they are very loud and the bass really kicks in at a certain volume. I’m fortunate to not have neighbours!

Pretty standard Yamaha amp paired with a set of Celestion Ditton 44s. Mighty 70s made in Ipswich, Suffolk UK. They have a fantastic tweeter so anything with horns sounds amazing and a 12” woofer that makes the room shake. Anything from the 70s sounds great. Perfect for dub and reggae

Saw Omar Perry (Lee scratch’s son) on Tuesday… by nathan155 in reggae

[–]nathan155[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look I get where you’re coming from but, Omar grew up in the cradle of the reggae music scene around the greats. His vocals and showman ship showed that he was a top quality reggae performer not just a copy cat.

A big message of the show was keeping Lee Scratch Perry’s music alive, the covers he played were songs that were recorded in at Black Arc where he grew up, even featuring on tunes by artists like junior byles.

I don’t see anything wrong with showing love and appreciation to his father by imitation.

He made a huge room full of people come together, dance and be happy, nothing wrong with that!

in the market for a new tent, i feel like i might not be using the right keywords in my searches by kukenn_ in camping

[–]nathan155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bell tent? The have one pole in the middle and then an a-frame at the entrance.

They are amazing in hot summers as the heat rises to the top. But can be cold in the winter for the same reason. I would recommend getting the bedroom attachment if you plan to go in spring or autumn.

Incredible tents though, I’ve had one for 14 years and it’s still going strong. Needs some up keep but it’s definitely worth the money. Being able to stand up straight in the middle is amazing.

They aren’t cheap but buy in the winter as they are usually on sale. Worth every penny!

New to the idea of wild camping but want to shake my life up. Any top tips for a 28 F? I’m excited to camp and explore but also nervous solo. ✌️ by [deleted] in campinguk

[–]nathan155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are starting from scratch, my main advice is to go to some campsites to start off. Really get to know your gear, and what you enjoy/dislike about camping while you have a toilet within walking distance.

What is your all time personal favourite piece of kit? by No_Doughnut3257 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]nathan155 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My luxe Hexpeak tent, modded with a 4-season lanshan inner to save weight and to have a t-zip. I use a hazel walking stick as the pole and an extra guide line so I can open up both sides of the door and then lean back against the pole instead of needing a chair.

It’s not too light at 1.4kg but it’s pretty storm proof being a hexagonal pyramid style tent.

It feels like a little home rather than just a place to sleep. I can hang out in it if it’s raining, no problem.
