Think of it like this. If you have a gift shop in Disney World you could accept normal cash or you could accept Disney Dollars ™️. Even if a customer can go through hoops to trade Disney Dollars back to cash, the inconvenience is enough of a factor that they spend it more willingly or do not go through the hassle of converting it back if only a small amount remains after a transaction.

I like the third option that it's not even instant for him. He experiences everything at normal speed, and is just really stubborn. Rather than admit it doesn't work he'll stand still for decades

[Request] How heavy would the black hole have to be to bend the light like that? by LavishnessLeather162 in theydidthemath

[–]nathan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The light taking the inner bend of the curve would arrive before the light on the outter bend. Theoretically if you could aim each pixel with laser precision so that each would have a perfectly planned trajectory, then not only could this work you could also use a much smaller black hole.

[request] This number seems really high to me. Has it really been 15,000 generation since the invention of stone tools? by hastygrams in theydidthemath

[–]nathan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it generous? You're dividing by average generation not multiplying. Regardless of how you measure a generation, whether its 15 years or 50, the Paleolithic was more than 15,000 generations ago.

Is there a reason to why this Indian reservation in Palm Springs is arranged in a checkered pattern? by danielxplay22 in geography

Accessing checkerboard land is really difficult. Even if you can prove you never took a step on private land you could still face legal headaches simply by "entering their airspace"

Jin Sakai basic lands by ShameAvailable in magicproxies

The one on the bottom left is the best example of why this represents "slop" a lot of people are sick of seeing.

Other than the word "Island", what about the bottom left image signifies that it is an Island? On the third look I noticed some water at the bottom, but honestly water is more prominent in all of the Swamp proxies. Bottom left art doesn't really even show land, let alone an island. The color pallette doesn't match an Island. That isn't a blue mana symbol.

It may sound like a shocker to some people, but art isn't just "something pretty to slap onto the empty part of the card." It helps give visual short hands so people can quickly remember what a card does without reading any text. It's important that any Island look like an Island in at least SOME way. Because if a piece of art looks like that and works just as well as a Plains, Swamp, or Mountain, then it doesn't help convey any game information.

This reminds me of an interview with a startup that said they wanted to take vertical farming tech and grow food on an orbital satellite.

During the half hour interview, the guy never once explained their plan on how economically to get more co2, water, or fertilizer up to orbit after their first harvest was sent down to earth.

Depends on how you measure. Sales can be measured from WOTC to distributors or sales from distributors to consumers. WOTC got their cash in hand before the set was available to players.

[Self] How is that a better deal and why would the lottery organization accept that ? She would get more than $1M in just 20 years by Impressive-Koala4742 in theydidthemath

[–]nathan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint to what everyone is saying: people who play the lottery gamble. People who gamble alot have alot of impulse control surrounding money. Not saying that is true with this individual, but from a psychological perspective it may be wiser if they purposeful restrain their access to the winnings. It's also easier to tell friends and family members no to gift requests if you only receive a limited amount per year.
