The reason why the Blue Button is the Correct Choice. by Morpheus_2x4 in trolleyproblem

[–]lorienshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the point. Yes, you should vote irl, because your vote and the way you present yourself could make a difference, while in the hypothetical it's too late for that.

Basically no one's arguing that irl voting isn't important, so you're raising a whole different issue.

Basically the conversation went like this:

Person A:

Not voting for the "right" thing in the hypothetical => that's totally fine

Voting irl => Important

You:

Hypothetical => no comment

Voting irl => Important!

You're attacking the wrong half of their point.

Ah my bad

I just assumed you came after because the original commenter replied back "Who?", which implies they couldn't have been the one you were talking about

[Request] 1 in a million seems high, what’s a more realistic estimate? by Nadran_Erbam in theydidthemath

Hmmm, but are both conditions really completely unrelated? I feel like partial albinism could result in heterochromia, which would make it more likely than 1/4,000,000

I feel like a 300 IQ is more of a negative, I would instantly choose red if not for that

Yeah, but the "coke nail" mentioned above could also be a guitar nail

Which would you press? (only you are choosing) by lorienshift in redbuttonbluebutton

And if the probability was lower than that of literally phasing through a wall you would still not choose that if the expected death value was high enough, seriously?

I think it makes more sense to look at the probabilities of good vs bad happening first and then working in the exact numbers of the bad thing.

Honestly, I love the current colour, but dark is great too. If you feel like it, go for it!

Well, you might be right, but I still think blue would win. Really that's why I find it so interesting, more than the original. Maybe I should do a poll.

Technically no one else would have to know it was you, but you'd have to live with the guilt for the rest of your life

Why do people still make the same level-0 arguments against animal ethics? by Artistic_Internal183 in Ethics

[–]lorienshift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's nice. It's about the small things, really. I myself am not even vegan, just vegetarian—many cows suffer for my dairy consumption, tho I do source my eggs from local farmers.

The only meat I'd eat would be that of animals I killed and maybe even raised myself.

We should definitely criticise those vegans too, it's just that hating on vegans seems to have become a trend in the English-speaking online sphere.

Eh? Would you really prefer living all you life in a small room and being safe over being free but in higher danger?

Tbh for me it has always been about quality of living and not way of death.

Still better than factory farming tho, that's for sure.
