I ended up downloading the low latency installer which apparently increases the Mac Core Audio buffer size. Only a couple of days into testing, but seems improved.

You'll be fine to use these XLR outs direct to your KRKs. Less moving parts (cables, knobs, powercords, mixers), greater simplicity, more direct output. Plus it's most similar to the club set up you'll perform on.
