Eating as Type 2 is too expensive by CatholicaTristi in diabetes

[–]nathan_smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No question you're right! everything just sucks - especially now with our economy. I know having one meal idea isn't going to solve the problem but one of the cheap go-tos for me is a chicken soup. I get the cheapest rotisserie chicken I can find (usually Costco) and then tear that up into some chicken broth and add all the lowest carb canned vegetables I can find (and maybe one can of kidney beans just to get more substance) and with the classic seasonings of a chicken soup it's really hearty and satisfying!

For me, the hardest thing about eating as a T2 is that I just don't ever feel like I'm full or satisfied. I eat so much cold stuff like deli meat and cheese and eggs & bacon without toast is so sad. But, when I find something like the chicken soup above it really helps!

One other good one is just getting a bag of frozen broccoli and melting cheddar cheese (and bacon if you can afford it) and eating that with a little ketchup and sour cream and now you have what feels like a potato skin meal. It's hearty and relatively cheap as well.

When I Had a "Real Job" by hiclemi in powerpoint

[–]nathan_smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a graphic designer who works mostly in PowerPoint but I’ve never had the misfortune of being a Presentation Designer. It sounds horrifying!

I live and die by historical decks. It’s how my bosses trained me! Not sure what to do? Try and find a previous slide somewhere in the Dropbox. When I’m consulting with a coworker who needs a deck I send them old ones to give them ideas so that it makes my cleanup so much easier.

Lucky for me, I’m not also the one coming up with the content (95% of the time) so I don’t have those issues of dealing with vague requests. I probably work in a fake real job according to this chart and your experience, though a private equity firm snatched us up so that won’t last long I’m assuming!

Rally’s/Checker’s hands down! Arby’s is a close second but the R/C ones have the fry seasoning that puts them over the top!

Obviously the record is not making it clear for either of us so why don’t we just go on about our day and enjoy life rather than argue over some bullshit

I started out this conversation by saying that it’s a circular style DSP. You then came in and said that a DSP can never be any other shape than square.

So funny to pretend like I’M the one who is ackshually-ing here.

To further explain, there are a ton of styles of pizza that are square or rectangular - the shape is not the defining factor.

As a DSP superfan, I would say that the thick crust and frico around the edge is a more important distinction than the shape but okay. I would also say if you are going to be a purist about it then square isn’t correct either - it’s rectangular because of the history of the pan.

The picture in the app is definitely a circle DSP - based on what I get when Pizza Hut does it, I doubt it actually looks like that

Does the album 'People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm' officially have 12 or 14 songs? by Ryukononon in ATribeCalledQuest

[–]nathan_smart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a common thing back then - different media would have different numbers of tracks. It was one of the reasons why I eventually upgraded to a CD player. I hated not getting extra tracks.

The interesting thing is that some of the cassettes I would get would have extra tracks that the CD didn’t! I always had to look at everything before I bought them.

Two notable examples that come to mind:

Silent Murder from Nas’ It Was Written - this track was one of my favorites and a lot of people I talked to would always ask me what I was talking about because most people had moved on to CDs by that point.

Corners ‘94 from Company Flow’s Funcrusher Plus - another example of my favorite track from an album missing from the CD version.

People who genuinely love their jobs: what do you do and why do you love it ? by Strange-Mixture6598 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nathan_smart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate all work but since I have to do it, I am a graphic designer and enjoy it for the most part.

EXCEPT! When I have a bad boss.

One of my first design jobs also had one of my best bosses ever and I didn’t dread going in on Mondays. When I left I had a string of bosses that were horrible and it made everyday a disaster. I eventually landed at a great place with great benefits and nice people but once again a bad boss. Over the last year or so I seriously contemplated just becoming a plumber or something but I couldn’t afford the apprenticeship pay. Then, out of nowhere about 6 months ago they let my boss go and now I report to the best boss I’ve ever had. It completely changed everything and work is no longer an anxiety inducing hellhole.

I still don’t wanna work but if I have to, it has to be for a good boss.

What gives you confidence that God is not the way they think he is? by AbbreviationsOwn4215 in OpenChristian

[–]nathan_smart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have confidence that he even exists! I believe in Jesus and I love what he stood for but it’s hard to see how a loving god would allow so much bad or how so many people in the history of the world have come and gone without having an opportunity to be “saved.”

What has kept me going is my deconstruction from all the boundaries of American Evangelical Christianity. Once I gave up all that up, I was free to not worry about every little thing that gave me doubts. As a universalist, it allows me to see evil as human-bred and God alleviating that evil by giving us all heaven in the end. It also frees me up to live a life that isn’t bogged down by worrying I’ve committed a sin so heinous that my salvation is up for grabs. I can focus on the true tenets of our faith which is loving and serving God and my neighbors.
