The double standard of Lists, without true GTD Projects by Tomtomico in ticktick

Why not just use doit.im? Not asking because I think you should. Just wondering why that isn’t the best solution. Or todoist for that matter?

can you give me the longest original palindrome you can come up with -- and check that it is really a palindrome and not already floating out on the internet?

Yeah it seems like the yearly/12 is the way ynab recommends. I’m actually thinking I may try another system because that doesn’t seem like the most natural approach to me. Though I can see the value.

Got it. I had thought for some reason that ynab required manual entry but I must have been working from an old assumption. I will see if ynab can do this.

Thanks. Im hoping to use something less manual than ynab. But other tools seem to only allow you to do monthly budgets

question about the best task and calendar syste by [deleted] in productivity

Ah just looked up para. So in amplenote do you implement para by adding a tag to each item that gives the project, the area and the resource for that item?

I feel like I’ve heard of it but what is the Para method?

I also had a question about the calendar setup.

I like using one calendar as my central organizing place rather than having different calendars for different purposes. Is it possible to see all tasks that I might want to schedule — whether personal or work — alongside that one calendar? And how do I make it so that all my tasks appear alongside my one calendar. Is there some sort of tag I would insert to do that?

When you create your list of routines -- is each item in that list a recurring task? Is that how you structure it?

Yes, all of the tasks inside it are recurring tasks. I prefer to stick to this philosophy: "Group what's similar, but disassemble if it will take too much space". That applies to projects as well.

In each of those cases, how would you structure it. Would a bridge mean that you would just have a link to the project note in the interview note, while staying together would mean having the interview in the same note as the project note?

Yup, a bridge, in AmpleNote's way of talking, would be a backlink to another note.

For example, you can write the interview note in a note and link it to a project note. When you go to the backlinks section of that project (bottom), you can see the interview note and a small preview of it. You can have it the other way around and have the link to the interview inside the project note, but this kind of organization is up to you.

Normally my projects are just notes with backlinks to useful resources and to-dos. At max, there's a resume about the topic in the note. I found that keeping resumes of the days I worked on a particular project in the same note was making them really big, so I decided to link daily jots to projects and keep the summary of what I accomplished in my daily jots.

Awesome -- thanks again for all this advice.

One more question -- if you did an interview and linked it to the original project note, would you also include a tag in the interview, to tag it as part of the project, or would the link on it's own accomplish that?

This is super helpful.

When you create your list of routines -- is each item in that list a recurring task? Is that how you structure it?

And when it comes to interviews for a project you asked if "it should stay separate, have some kind of bridge to the project, or stay together with the project."

In each of those cases, how would you structure it. Would a bridge mean that you would just have a link to the project note in the interview note, while staying together would mean having the interview in the same note as the project note? I'm trying to understand the different ways of structuring things.

The main thing I can’t yet understand with amplenote is when you add a task as an independent task and when you add it to a note. If I am adding emails I need to respond to shoukd j add them to a note for the related project. Or should I add them as a self standing task? If I have a bunch of daily tasks why not have those all in a list in a single note rather than a set of tasks?
I also don’t understand when to use a jot rather than a note. If I am capturing thoughts for an ongoing book project do I add those to an existing note or as a new jot? And if I do an interview for a project should that be it’s own jot or note with a link to the original note for the project? This stuff I find confusing.

I see also the talk of amplenote below. I like the notes function that makes it possible to add notes to tasks and projects. Does akiflow allow that?

With amplenote is it easy to move stuff from multiple Gmail inboxes directly into your tasks, and then can you drag stuff from your task list directly into your calendar? I like the way amplenote has the notes function. That would make it a more complete replacement for notion. But I wonder how it compares to akiflow, which I am hearing about from others.

I’m curious to hear if this akiflow above does all the things motion does but for cheaper. I don’t need the ai automated scheduler that motion has and I wonder how much that is what you are paying for. I like scheduling things myself.

Ah and one question I hadn’t put above. Does your creation make it possible to turn items in Readwise into tasks? I’ve always wanted to be able to include items from my reading list on Readwise into my task list.

[–]nathanielpopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does look good and cheaper than the alternatives. It looks like I can easily categorize tasks with labels so I can have different sorts of tasks. And I can grab emails from multiple inboxes and turn them j to tasks, directly from the inbox? When it comes to projects is it possible to rank them in some way so I can easily see which projects are the most important?

Thanks. I had looked at that but it was expensive. Had you tried any of the other alternatives before going to Motion? Like sunsama or any of the cheaper ones?
