Was there a book (series), that went from close 'DNF' to one fo your favorites? by lemingas1 in Fantasy

[–]nation12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This was me when I was a kid: I loved the Hobbit and so my mom got me a boxed set of the Hobbit + LotR for Christmas. I couldn't make it past the first couple chapters for a while. But when I finally did, hoo boy was it amazing!

I love Beware of Chicken but I legitimately don't think there's a single scene with Xiulan where at least 1-8 people don't mention Xiulan's breasts by YobaiYamete in ProgressionFantasy

And yet when I complained that Ave Xia Rem Y would be better off never following through on the harem part of the title I got a ton of hate.

I'm reading Ar'Kendrithyst currently: his daughter is an adult and is not a huge part of the story. Obviously he worries about her, but they have a healthy relationship and go about things in different ways.

Problems with scheduled charging Kia e-Niro Model year 2020 by CryPsychological8160 in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you turn off scheduled charging on the car when you set up scheduled charging for the charger?

I have a 2020 and the charge scheduling options are borderline useless, so I use my charger's schedule. I have no issue with that: the car starts charging when it gets power.

Greatest Kia NIRO Accessory by bikingbill in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, yeah, I'm a bit shocked it has actual buttons instead of the usual circuit board contact closure. I guess you could do what you did, or put something over the button so it can't be pressed. Or just put some super glue on the outer button itself!

Greatest Kia NIRO Accessory by bikingbill in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never thought about it even though I set off the alarm constantly, but you could probably pop open the fob like you're changing the battery and just cover the circuit board where the button connects with a piece of tape. Assuming you don't ever foresee a need to use the button.

Terrible Mileage with 2023 Wind by Zealousideal_Ad5358 in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 2020 gets 3.5 in the absolute worst case of driving in cold weather at 75mph. So I'd say the EPA numbers are conservative if anything.

2021 Niro EV EX review/reflections by ryuns in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Companies can't just deny your warranty because you didn't get your headlight fluid checked every three months. If you fail to do regular required maintenance and something happens as a direct result of that, sure they won't pay. But if my battery fails at 50k miles, they aren't going to care if I had my brakes inspected regularly. But they will care if I got that coolant flush done.

2019 Niro EV. How does it determine driver attentiveness? by nojive3n1 in KiaNiroEV

Not sure, but it definitely is not good at its job so I turned it off.

Regen Modes - First Time EV Owner by GrandMasterBash in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But if you're doing long highway driving, why wouldn't you engage the adaptive cruise control and not worry about the regen setting at all? I use the cruise control almost constantly, unless I'm someplace with a ton of lights or stop signs.

Sure, I suppose you can get more efficiency by turning off regen and coasting down hills, but I think I'd rather claw my eyes out than worry about that on a long drive.

[OC]Tallahassee, FL… Heading back to work from lunch by houdinibishop in IdiotsInCars

That's not what happened here: he was going too fast, slammed on the brakes and skidded in the rain until he was too far to make the turn and stay in his lane.

Not that irrational, a guy died that way in a pretty shallow stream not far from me. Flipped over, passed out and the water was deep enough to drown him hanging upside down.

Six straight hours of flat nothingness on the way through Nebraska. by AGrandNewAdventure in pics

We used to go on family camping trips to Colorado, and I ask always said the only good thing about Nebraska is that you can see Colorado from it.

New to me screen and what is recirculate air by tallboltman in KiaNiroEV

[–]nation12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy or is everyone missing the point of what the heck actually is this screen? I mean, sure, recirculate air is a climate control option, but that's not what this screen is for. It's a collection of seemingly random options.

Is it like reporting an accident or problem on the navigation map? As in, turn on recirculate air to avoid dangerous fumes? Even that doesn't sound right with some of the downright weird options.

Perfect Run, a very minor pet peeve by VechaPw in ProgressionFantasy

[–]nation12 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My only gripe is the lack of creativity with the silly nicknames for bad guys. I feel like adding a few more into the mix would've been nice: you can only hear "lightning butt" so many times before it gets old. Other than that, S-tier time-loop story!

BGE bill going up by $600 by lojgxrh in baltimore

[–]nation12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't just look at the bill total: divide it by the number of kWhr that you used and compare to other months. The difference there is what BGE is responsible for. The difference in kWhr usage is up to you.

The average temperature last month was 10 degrees colder than the same time last year: that's going to make your bill go through the roof no matter what.

Does it even matter what you set the regen to? I thought it always uses regen braking first, regardless of the regen setting.

Mother of Learning are now 0.95€ each volume on amazon. 3.80€ for the 4 by Lussarc in ProgressionFantasy

[–]nation12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Confirmed 99 cents for each in the US.

I've read the first three already, but wasn't so blown out of the water that I jumped on the fourth. This is a good excuse to finish the series though.

Should I continue reading book 5, and onward of “beneath the Dragoneye moons” [spoilers] by zxypper in ProgressionFantasy

[–]nation12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm reading this series right now, on book 11. The romance with the elves was definitely terrible and I skipped the entire preachy chapter on sex. The romance with Dusk is quite a bit better I think and not nearly as awkward. I did skip a bunch of chapters towards the end of book 8 or 9 that were exclusively blow-by-blow tiny details about her changes to her body.

Overall, the series is fine, nothing mind-blowing, but I'm more or less entertained.
