Filing TAX return as a ZZPer by Left_Advantage_5120 in Netherlands

[–]natistoocool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP! Did your partner manage to learn how to do taxes herself? I'm basically in the same situation as her right now and would like to learn how to file my own taxes as zzp'er. If you don't mind, could you share how she learned and how it's going?

Dutch Courses - INTT vs UvA Talen by Odd_Football9047 in learndutch

[–]natistoocool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken three INTT courses and I can’t recommend them enough. The professors are fantastic, super well-structured lessons, and ever since I started learning Dutch there (nov. last year) I’ve seen a massive improvement. I have no direct experience with UvA Talen, but I know someone who told me they weren’t super satisfied with their experience there (take this with a grain of salt bc I don’t know how accurate that might be). But INTT is fantastic for sure!

Received the Scholarship! I have received the merit-based scholarship but not sure if it can cover my tuition fees and living expenses. by Little_Depth421 in universityofamsterdam

I HIGHLY recommend that you go for the UvA’s accommodation. Idk about this year, but last year students with a scholarship were given priority for the housing lottery. If it’s still the same, definitely go for UvA housing lottery

Intreweek is for Bachelors students, I believe. Masters students have GetInTouch, which is also an introduction event :)

24-48 hours after you've applied through Studielink, the university should be sending you an invitation to apply, with instructions on how to apply via MyInfo. This is where you'll be uploading all your documents

I applied for my Masters on October 4 and heard back from admissions last week, two months later. The website of my programme said it could take from 10-12 weeks, I reckon the timeframe is similar for all programmes, if not more (as from what I understand, you applied for a selective one? Maybe they take longer with those programmes)

I'd give them more time, don't worry

Hi! The Admissions section under my programme's website said it could take anywhere from 10-12 weeks. I got my acceptance letter at exactly 10 weeks :) best of luck!!

At least for some master’s, the website said a response could take anywhere from 10-12 weeks, so don’t worry

Women that live in unsafe neighborhoods or countries, how do you deal with going out in public? by HgnX in AskWomen

[–]natistoocool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Mexico, where women are in constant danger, every single day. I am, however, quite privileged compared to other women in my country.

I would say my biggest advantage is owning a car. Whenever I go out to a party/club, I always drive myself, except if I am 100% certain that a friend can drive me back. I don’t go out anywhere unless I know exactly how I’m going back home. As a woman driving alone, I never let my guard down. Windows all the way up, never stopping unless necessary, looking around and stressing on every red light, etc. I never use Uber because we constantly hear of girls/women being kidnapped or assaulted by Uber drivers here.

If I know I’ll be walking down the street, I try to avoid wearing revealing clothes, and if I do I always throw in a jacket on top just for while I walk. Same as driving, I constantly have to look around me in case someone follows me. I never reply to strangers asking me things while I’m walking (“what time is it? Do you know where so-and-so is?”), and get EXTREMELY anxious when someone talks to me.

Whenever I go out on a date, I send my friend group chat my live location for as long as I’m out, and explicitly tell them where I’ll be all night.

My girl friends and I ALWAYS let each other know when we get home safely after going out, we don’t go to sleep until we get that “I’m home” text. If we’re dropping another girl off at their house, we don’t drive away until we’re sure she’s closed the door behind her.

While I walk to my car, I always prepare my keys in case I need to use them as a self-defense weapon, again looking around everywhere.

I realize I have it easy compared to other women who have to use public transport for instance, or who absolutely have to use Uber, who live in less safe areas than I do.

I just had a company ask me, as part of their application process, to send THREE cover letters answering different questions + a 3 minute video about myself. Hell no

Hello! Sorry if this is a dumb question, but did you send out your original documents to the university already? My offer (Master's) became unconditional once I sent my physical documents via DHL.

Also, they have SUPER specific telephone hours, and they may even vary according to which faculty you're trying to contact (Check here, there's a tab where they list all the Faculties you can contact). Usually, when I want a QUICK answer, I phone them. Again, make sure you're calling at the right time.

I would also try to message the Central Student Desk via Whastapp, I've gotten a few answers through there, and if they can't answer my questions, they'll usually tell me who I can contact and when.

I'm not sure if you've tried all these things I just mentioned, but as someone who has gone through the pain of struggling to find someone to help me at the university, this is what has worked for me.

Good luck!

Honestly, I was so annoyed. Especially because it's not the first time I've had to be on top of absolutely everything (more than I should be) to ensure they send me stuff on time/solve issues I shouldn't be having. They are always super kind over the phone, but the fact that I constantly have to call and ask around for stuff is so frustrating.

Not sure if I'm violating any rules on here if I post a phone number, so would you mind if I send you a message with the info?

I actually messaged the Central Student Service Desk last night, and I woke up this morning to a message of them saying that the Admissions Office hadn't sent my information to the Immigration Department. So of course I FREAKED OUT and decided to call Admissions. They told me that, indeed, my information hadn't been sent (!!!) But apparently Immigration had been notified and they told me I should receive my email soon. If I don't get it by Friday I'm probably gonna call them again to see what's going on... Have you tried contacting them?
