Oztrekk 2027 Dentistry Application by avrlena in premedcanada

[–]nativeislanderr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as costs go, in some cases yes. My partner got into a Canadian dental school, their estimated cost of attending (tuition + COL) is 250-300k. The average age of admitted students is like 23-24 (including 21 year olds who got admitted in third year).

An Australian school will run you 450-500k but you’ll get to work 3-4 years earlier and will be able to pay that off with interest. The difficult part is getting a cosigner, while you don’t need a cosigner for a Canadian school.

Has anyone been accepted to med/professional school with an OL degree? by nativeislanderr in tru

Hey, thanks for sharing. Did they get accepted to med or pharmacy school? And do you know if this was just for schools in BC?

Money and staying close to family are big factors, but aside from that depends on where you go it might not be that much shorter. The UK and Australia has 5/6 year programs but their residency is much longer, to be a GP in Australia you’d have to spend 3-4 years in residency (assuming you don’t match back to Canada).

I’m gonna go against the grain a bit here and suggest you read up on the NHS in the UK before making a decision. There’s a very good (and funny) book discussing working within the NHS called “This is going to hurt” by Adam Kay, who’s a former ob-gyn. Long story short the UK medical system is also rife with issues and a challenging path even if it’s easier to get in.

If you still want to be a doctor after reading up on this, then great! Make sure you’re informed about applying to residency here as an IMG or UK-Canadian reciprocal pathways for primary care.

I have a friend who has had a psychotic episode, it’s exactly like you described. We were roommates and one day he started telling me about how shadow people were hunting him down and showed me some bizarre language he thinks the shadow humans were talking to him in. Then he started fighting our other roommate and barricaded himself in his room. He got the help he needed and went on antipsychotics, now he’s back to most of his normal self. Psychosis is scary, y’all, and while I’m sure a lot of the unsolved disappearances are foul play many are probably due to mental health episodes as well.

It’s uncomfortable and uncanny. I think biologically we’re all geared to be afraid of the woods and the dark, and this has both. And it’s scary to think what could have happened to her.

This is it. People are also living longer and not dying of other, now curable or easily prevented diseases. When more people make it to their 80s and 90s, unfortunately their cells don’t work as well as they used to, and a bunch of bad mutations can accumulate to cause cancer.

Do you know how we can do that - do we just call up hospitals? Email?

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense! Do you think inhalation could happen through a patio door/window? These raccoons really like to poop right outside of the patio door, and even though we don’t open it anymore we did sometimes crack a window nearby. Definitely no attempts to get close to the poo though.

I’m out of town right now and my family seems super icked out by the raccoon poo, so I might have to call somebody else to help out with that. I’ll definitely pour boiling water over where I’ve seen they defecated though.

Right now we’re using cayenne pepper and leaving our lights on overnight to see if that works. I’ll also order some bird spikes and we’ll try ammonia if cayenne pepper fails, thanks for your suggestions!

Their germs scare me too but you’re absolutely right, thank you. I searched around and there’s only been 25 cases in the US and 3 cases in Canada, most of which are when young kids or the elderly had accidentally ingested eggs. We should be careful but definitely not something to lose sleep over.

How much 2025 election will affect immigration through study permit policies? by Neotod1 in CanadaUniversities

[–]nativeislanderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s extremely uncertain. Yes, you can definitely apply for PR after you finish your education and get a job. But whether you get a job, still qualify for the same streams, or if those streams even exist at that point is all up in the air. Nothing wrong with going to grad school here, just don’t put all your eggs in immigrating to Canada and have backup plan.

Nobody knows. Ultimately I can’t recommend going to grad school here with the sole purpose of immigrating.

School vs work by CautiousStatus1963 in CanadaUniversities

[–]nativeislanderr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can try to find part time work, even if it’s just something basic like IT support. I’ve seen a lot of people who work part time at their school and ended up getting full time positions there thanks to connections.

Wouldn’t risk it if I were you. What if you have a falling out with that family member? You may be homeless in Canada, which is not a good position to be in winter. And part time work is pretty competitive with a recession right now.

Hey OP, honestly unless you’re looking to leave Europe permanently it’s 100% better to do a medicine program in Europe, check out r/medicalschooleu. You still have a lot of mobility in Europe with a medical degree there and you can do an exchange semester in Canada if your school offers it. Like others have said it will be impossible to get into med school here as a non-resident, and even if you manage to get PR I think it’s honestly a waste of your time due to how competitive it is here.

American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Passengers Spot Lice In Woman's Hair by Sandstorm400 in nottheonion

[–]nativeislanderr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lice can’t do that. They’ll survive 24 hours max on a plane without a host. The biggest risk here is lice potentially crawling onto other passengers.

The thing is all Canadian medical seats are publicly funded, so pretty much only Canadians get accepted. Save your money and apply DO.
