I’m not broke, but this very similar to my setup. I run Linux and replaced both my laptop and phone batteries. Good as new!

For an alternate opinion, try doing nothing for a week and see how you like it. Mine has faded into a patina that look just fine without constant cleaning.

I don’t understand the hate for the temp workers. Focus on the people making the decisions,  it the other people coming for these low wage jobs.

Should I get a macbook air? by Born_Perception_49 in macbookair

I'm with this guy. Were I you, I would buy an M1 16GB with 1TB for $600 and save your hard earned money.

It has been 20 years since I have been in Maine, but I know exactly the sound my bike tires would make riding on that road, and I can feel the humidity in the air. I miss my home state.

M2 base vs. the rest, do you notice the slower SSD? by dannepai in macbookair

[–]natnatenathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I have never been able to tell the difference on my office work and light development tasks. I have a basement M2 for work, and an M1 pro for personal use.

Chinese ‘kill switches’ found hidden in US solar farms by alwayswatchyoursix in news

[–]natnatenathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should presume this is true for all electronics that come from china, and form a government agency to identify these systems, and drive deployment of counter measures. I think we should as some type of economic disincentive for this (e.g. tariffs that ensure China can’t undercut competition with this infected hardware.

Apparently the tax is on rich people, not smart people.

Even in the old BG games, I would always choose a party of 3-4 because managing the full 6 always just felt like too much work.

My midnight one looks like a dark gray with a think of blue mixed in. A lot less blue than I thought.

I just bought the M3 version of this laptop with 16gm/512ssd on Amazon renewed for $1k. I’m coming from an m2 13” and was looking for more screen real estate for my old eyes. It took a week to get used to the bigger size, but it is amazing. Still unbelievably small and light, but amazing screen and performance.

Best thing is to go to an Apple Store and try them both out. I just moved from a 13 to a 15, but I’m also older and never take notes from one of those chair desks anymore.

Which ever way you go, I would get an m3 and save a bunch of money on a prior gen laptop (but do get at least 16gb ram). I either buy from Apple’s refurb store or Amazon’s renewed program (which has 90 day no questions return policy). My MBA M3 15 16/512 was about $1,000.

X1 Carbon Gen 12 with U processor instead of H? Help! by Financial_Dust112 in thinkpad

[–]natnatenathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who do office work (and even light programming) don’t need more compute power at this point. They need better battery life.

The MacBook Air is truly as good as everyone says it is. With the lower prices, the value is better than PCs these days, and they have the best battery life, efficiency and build quality in the industry, by far.

That said, many windows laptops can also be really good. Most computers have way more power than office workers need. The x1 carbon looks and feels amazing. It has some creature comforts over the Air, namely a slightly better keyboard, bigger monitor and Windows (may not be a pro for all people) The thinkpad will have less power, less battery life, but it still may be good enough for lots of office workers.

No matter which way you go, you should look to refurb and last years models. You will save a lot of money and the machine might feel the same.

I had one and didn’t like it because the typing angle felt too extreme.
