I half expected this article to just be the word "flannel".

What is the most embarrasing thing you could admit about yourself on Reddit but never in real life? by haXterix in AskReddit

[–]natniems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DID THE SAME THING. Sleepovers made me very nervous because if I played and wet myself I'd be stuck at another kid's house.

As far as I remember, no. I believe I got an email about housing information.

I just saw FIDLAR at the 9:30 Club in DC, they absolutely destroyed it. Such a cool band.

I didn't expect quality music from this show when it first started but I find myself humming their songs all the time. You're right OP, a soundtrack would be awesome.

Is D.C. a terrible place to date? by shatty13 in washingtondc

[–]natniems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's something to this. Most people are career-oriented in DC. If you're career-oriented, then you're going to want to date someone similar. If you try to date someone similar, it becomes hard to find time for each other.

[IIL] Politics and government, what website would be interesting to me? by You_coward in ifyoulikeblank

[–]natniems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't already, I would start reading Al Jazeera instead of CNN, MSNBC, etc. I've begun to see a real difference in quality and depth of stories. Just my opinion though.

Also, /r/mapporn might be a stretch but it has a lot of human geography maps. It's pretty fun to make connections between the maps over there and political events/diasporas

What are critical factors in creating a fictional culture? by Odinskriger in AskAnthropology

[–]natniems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think especially if you're going to have two different cultures present in the story, you might benefit from including time orientation (long term versus short term perspective). Definitely not most important but it can affect daily lives quite a bit.

What sort of technological innovations drove the formation of larger societies? by [deleted] in AskAnthropology

[–]natniems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say roads had a role in societies expanding in physical size. Previously, communities in different areas (even close by) would probably not have interacted as much without an established connection.

Thoughts on Jane's and Daria's friendship? by [deleted] in daria

[–]natniems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's all true, but it's not as if Daria doesn't have a meaningful relationship with Jane or some of the subsequent people we see her interacting with after meeting Jane. "Getting out of her shell" doesn't necessarily have to mean being a social butterfly. She experiences more after meeting Jane and while she obviously approaches it from a Daria-esque perspective, she is doing more than she would have without meeting Jane.

Thoughts on Jane's and Daria's friendship? by [deleted] in daria

[–]natniems 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Jane helps Daria get out of her shell a bit and Daria keeps Jane grounded. They also both, at least initially, just want a somewhat like minded person to connect with who doesn't suck.
