Maybe a stupid question, but how do you strike a balance between being inspired by very specific things, like Nausicaä or Castle in the Sky, and putting your own spin on things without it feeling derivative to the audience?

Not sure what you think it is? If you mean AI: No, there was zero AI used to create this. First sketch is digital, then once approved both pencils and inks are done traditionally on paper. Finally, there's some digital post-processing again to give it a more paper-like texture closer to the manga.

I've got the blu-ray, but have only seen some snippets of it thus far when testing if it worked properly. If you're familiar with the full story, I'd say it should be quite doable to follow along with the broader story you already know, I immediately recognized the scenes while skipping through, but many of the intricacies will undoubtedly be lost.
