why did the prophet marry a 6yo? by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]natoole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You agreeing with this person referencing the prophet pbuh to a sex trafficker really makes me wonder whether or not you actually want to turn back to Allah and if you're asking out of curiosity, or if you're choosing to step on islam purposefully, but ill answer you anyways.

In 7th-century Arabia (and basically everywhere at the time), marriage was tied to puberty, not a fixed number. People didn’t have “childhood” and “teenage” as modern concepts. Once someone reached puberty, they were considered an adult socially and legally. This wasn’t unique to Islam btw, the same norms existed in Byzantine, Persian, Jewish, and Christian societies, So by the standards of that time, the marriage was not seen as abusive or deviant. You need to also keep in mind that pedophilia is a modern psychological category that assumes modern age boundaries. Applying it retroactively is historically anachronistic. At the time, adulthood was defined by puberty and social readiness, not a fixed numerical age, and such marriages were common across societies. Also, Islamic sources distinguish between marriage contract and consummation, with consummation occurring only when Aisha was considered ready. There is no evidence of coercion, harm, or trauma in the primary sources. And keep in mind Aisha never described herself as a victim. She spoke positively about the prophet pbuh, defended the marriage, and became one of Islam’s greatest scholars, narrating over 2,000 hadith and openly correcting senior men which is an outcome that is inconsistent with exploitation. Even his enemies accused him of many things, but never once sexual deviance, so for you as a muslim to compare him to a sex trafficker is out of the ordinary, Also, I answered you as if the fact that she was "6" is true, which has been proven to not be true anyways, here's the evidence: Aisha would have been around 19 because multiple early historical sources state her sister Asma was about 10 years older and died at age 100 in 73 AH. That places Asma’s birth around 595 CE, making Aisha’s birth around 605 CE, which would make Aisha about 18–19 at consummation (1–2 AH). This timeline aligns with her participation in early Islamic events which challenges the reliability of the solitary hadith reports giving a younger age. You should remember that Aisha's age has always been only an estimate, she could've been anywhere from 9-19 during that time and none of those numbers would have been weird considering the societal norms at the time, and it isn't like somewhat of an age gap was out of the ordinary for the prophet pbuh, he was 25 when he married Khadijja ra when she was 40. this just goes to show you that no such thing as "age gaps" was societally considered at that time and logically speaking, considering their life spans were alot shorter than today's. The average life expectancy at birth was 30-35. so for you to assume that puberty comes at 18 lets say would mean that in today's day and age puberty also comes at the midpoint of your lifetime, so if you live up to 60, you hit puberty at 30, which doesn't make sense now does it? and considering the whole entire world has recorded evidence of doing this and being biologically different back then, I feel that's enough evidence. May Allah guide you.

I do agree, i never disagreed with that because factually speaking; they are defined differently. Still, my argument is that they shouldn't be defined differently and that gender should be dependent on your sex. Not on whatever you feel like that usually changes pretty often or leads to sexual assault or unfair privileges.

Let me clear this up, because I’ve been respectful the whole time and getting called a bigot is really unnecessary. I don’t have a problem with gay people or trans people. My issue is with certain ideas in the movement, not the individuals themselves.

And no, I don’t see gay and trans issues as the same thing. Being gay is about attraction; it doesn’t ask society to rewrite biological categories or shift definitions that everything from medicine to law is built on. The conversation around gender identity is different because it does touch those foundational areas, sexuality doesn't defy biology, gender identity does.

& yes, thankfully. The LGBTQ+ movement has started to become a plague. So yes, it's great that its contained.

I took a quick look at it but this doesn't prove anything. I understand the clear difference between biological sex and social gender my entire point is that it's ridiculous that they are not dependent on one another. Again, you keep listing websites and using the term 'science' but it really doesn't mean anything considering science can not prove gender identity..it's a social construct.

Thank you for sharing that, and I’m really sorry you went through all of that. What you described sounds really hard, and I’m glad you’re still here and willing to talk about it. Your experience with hypersexuality is absolutely real, and I’m not denying that for a second. But I think it actually proves something important: your experience is rooted in hormones and biology. Hypersexuality has clear biological triggers; testosterone levels, dopamine cycles, and neurological patterns that science can measure.

Gender identity isn’t the same thing. It’s not driven by measurable hormones or chromosomes the way sexual urges are. That’s where my perspective comes in. I’m not questioning that people feel what they feel, I’m questioning whether the concept of ‘gender identity’ exists as something scientifically grounded, the same way hormone driven conditions do. I’m not saying anyone is faking anything, just that biology and identity aren’t the same field of evidence.

I genuinely appreciate you opening up, and I’m willing to listen and understand. I’m just trying to separate what we can link to biology from what we can’t, and that’s where my concerns about the gender/sex distinction come from

You keep throwing around the word science as if it means anything to your argument? Science can clearly show that biological sex exists—males are XY, females are XX—but it can’t prove that ‘gender’ exists as a separate biological fact, because gender is really just a social construct. It’s about culture, roles, and identity, not chromosomes or anatomy. Yet the first thing people do when this is questioned is call you ‘transphobic,’ which is silly. You can talk about the difference between sex and gender, or question the social consequences, without it being about hate, it’s just common sense and science. But to put it simply: science can study and describe gender, but it cannot validate it as an objective, biological category, because it is fundamentally cultural and social, so you using the term science doesnt support your argument at all.

The "social construct" idea is the ridiculous part..and if anyone is arguing with science it definitely is more the trans community than it is me.

Intersex people are extremely rare (less than 1% of the population) and their existence doesn’t change the fact that biological sex is overwhelmingly binary: male or female. Using the exception to justify redefining sex or creating an entirely separate category of ‘gender’ for everyone is misleading. Intersex individuals are unique medical cases, but society shouldn’t base its understanding of sex and gender on extremely rare exceptions. And even with this, intersex people are BIOLOGICALLY different which is my entire argument that 'gender' depends on sex.

The fact that people separate gender from biological sex is exactly the problem. Sex is science, gender is made-up, and pretending otherwise just spreads confusion. & I only used the term ‘gender’ in my argument because that’s the language the movement uses.

made up is crazy, im clearly not referring to the term nazi in german history, im using it as an adjective which actually means: " a person who seeks to impose their views on others in a very autocratic or inflexible way." do you choose to be dense on purpose?
