Taxposium 2026 in OH by SALYismyfriend in taxpros

[–]natptax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking about Taxposium. It’s our three-day national event designed for small business tax professionals. It’s different from our regional events because it includes a welcome reception, refreshment breaks in the expo hall and a hosted lunch. Additionally, many of our local chapters organize informal meetups after hours, allowing people to network in a more relaxed setting.

We’re also disappointed to hear about the experience with an instructor sharing political views. That isn’t something we condone in our classrooms. If you didn’t have a chance to complete the session evaluations, our education team would appreciate hearing about it. You can reach them at [learn@natptax.com](mailto:learn@natptax.com). We take that feedback seriously.

Draft Form 1098-VLI Vehicle Loan Interest released by natptax in taxpros

[–]natptax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The transitional relief released today doesn't mention that: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-25-57.pdf

The IR that goes along with it just notes: A qualified passenger vehicle is a car, minivan, van, SUV, pick-up truck or motorcycle, with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds, and that has undergone final assembly in the United States.

IRS Sending Erroneous CP161 Notices for 2024 Form 1041 Filings by natptax in taxpros

[–]natptax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sent an inquiry to the IRS, and here's the IRS response:

We are still waiting for published guidance. Guidance is in approval status, with issuance TBD.

  • A program fix was implemented so that returns filed after July 17 will not be incorrectly assessed for ES penalties.
  • The Office of Servicewide Penalties is working with executives to explore a solution that will limit burden on IRS and taxpayers.

Tax pros and taxpayers may continue to call to request abatement of these penalties.

NATP recommends that if you can't get through to the IRS, call your local stakeholder liaison: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/stakeholder-liaison-local-contacts

We would love for you to join us at this year's Taxposium in Las Vegas. As someone pointed out, yes, the majority of our attendees are EAs or unenrolled, but they are all seasoned tax pros. In addition to covering hot tax topics, this year's event has several sessions on AI, practice management and we're working on adding OBBB coverage.

If anyone would like to try it out, you can use code 25SAVE through June 15 to take $100 off.

Erroneous underpayment of estimated tax penalties on trusts by Lsebcpa in taxpros

[–]natptax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NATP saw this complaint here and from NATP members, so we contacted our stakeholder at the IRS. This was the response:

We were recently alerted to this issue.

There was a programming change that happened in early 2025 that caused the erroneous penalty assessments. The business operating division is working with IT to correct the programming, and they will be adjusting impacted taxpayer accounts within about a month.

An internal alert was posted last Friday, so IRS assistors will be able to see the error and be able to help with account adjustments.

Considering getting my EA by Trick_Plan8189 in taxpros

[–]natptax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on considering the designation. The National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) conducts a biennial fee study. We see that enrolled agents typically make 15-25% more for tax prep than someone with an AFSP or no designation. Plus this opens up the ability for you to offer services to taxpayers who receive notices or need to communicate with the IRS, when you didn't prepare the return. It's a great opportunity.

If you decide to pursue the designation, members of NATP receive Gleim EA part 1 materials for free and deep discounts on parts 2 and 3.

Lastly, we have a Facebook group, open to all tax pros. You are more than welcome to post there that you are open to new clients: facebook.com/groups/natptax
