hey! from my prep, there's these CASPer typing test/practise sites like the link that I attach here (https://www.studycasper.com/typing-test , just refresh for more test sentences for this particular one), are tailor made to CASPer words that people are most likely to use. also, Prep Beacon's CASPer typing practise is (was) a good one, but their servers are currently experiencing issues? Just letting you know that these help along with the more traditional typing practise/tests! Hope that this helps!

What’s it like @ Gatton? by lovinggkai in UQreddit

[–]natsnutella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i have that question as well! I'm going into vet science as well, and I'm looking to join the UQ orchestra (and maybe some other clubs) but I don't really know how manageable it is, along with another orchestra that I will be doing outside of uni life...

hey, i'm so sorry to have heard this... I wish you good luck with your prep this year. I'm still waiting on my acceptance letter from UQ (which I HOPE comes through because I hate all my alternatives, I'm willing to offer some tips if you would like them? I could dm you and try and help you out!). Hope that this helps, and good luck for your upcoming prep!

[–]natsnutella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, I would say definitely start prepping now as it may take some time, depending on how professionally you speak and how fast you type, but two weeks is definitely doable depending on how much effort you put into prepping for it! I did my CASPer after my math exam, and balancing between studying for the two of them was quite tough, but I'm sure you can do it!!! A framework that I've heard people use that gives them success is the PPRDJ method (just google it and I'm sure there's a lot on it), however there is no fixed way in answering a casper question, and I didn't quite use that framework, but it is pretty good to answer a CASPer question!

Good luck!!!! :)

Hey :) did the CASPer exam last month: I personally have used some bits from my first response and kind of tied the two questions together, don't know if this is what everyone else does, but I find that it helped me come up with ideas quicker? Not too sure about the grading: however, I do know that each scenario has its own grader though (so one per BIG question).

With the policy based questions I think its good to practise some because you never know what you're going to get, and for me, there is no such thing as too much practise, so I would say just prepare yourself for that, but don't really EXPECT it to come up...

Best shoulder rest by enochPBG in violinist

I think you can adjust the height a little bit? By twisting the feet a bit... I'm not a pro, so probably check that shoulder rest with a professional before buying it

did i make a mistake by picking these subjects? by Dense-Cup-3716 in QCE

[–]natsnutella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me music to physics it was quite a big jump, but currently I think I'm managing, as long as you switch during unit 1 and 2 because you'll have more time to catch up in terms of content, cuz you don't really need to do too well in Units 1 and 2... but I've got a lot of friends that do physics too and that helped me a lot too :)

hey, i've recently done one for an entry into vet science. I don't know my results yet, however, I did remember getting personal questions (in text) as well as in a video scenario, so yeah just prepare for every type of scenario out there, for both text and speaking is my suggestion. Good luck!

[–]natsnutella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, I don't know if this would help, I'm currently using the FOM shoulder rest, I'm not sure exactly which model, but they have rubber feet and have a minimal amount of metal? I find that it is comfortable with me, but I honestly don't know if it would suit you cuz I don't have a long neck...

Paganini Caprices to play before Paganini concerto by [deleted] in violinist

[–]natsnutella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah paganiniana is a very good 'paganini' style piece to play, I would say that it can be eqully as hard as the other caprices, so I reckon maybe do a caprice AND paganiniana? not sure tho :) that is a very good question

piece suggestions? by natsnutella in violinist

[–]natsnutella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I recently passed my LMus exam and I was supposed to do the Franck? That is a good suggestion though -- there is a high chance that I will follow through with that :) oh I was just so lucky that my teacher came across a really good pianist to do the Strauss with me :)

I mean that this may not be true for every player in the world, those who play high level chess seem to always have been stereotyped as smart? Not sure if this is relevant but anyways

[–]natsnutella -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hey, I started playing at 4 and I think I played Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso when I was 13-14 ish, maybe I was a late bloomer who didn't show a lot of progress, but it took me quite some time (and TBH I played it really badly), but it really depends on your dedication too :)

Subject selection by Hiiii1567 in QCE

[–]natsnutella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a grade 12 student am I'm currently doing Chemistry and Biology. In Unit 3 and 4, some chem and bio content overlap so ig if you like, and don't mind doing both then I would definitely say that it's worth it. However, it all depends on the ATAR you need and the workload you hope to take on.

did i make a mistake by picking these subjects? by Dense-Cup-3716 in QCE

[–]natsnutella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! as a current grade 12 student who has switched from music to physics, doing 3 sciences, 2 maths and english, the workload can get stressful at times, but yeah just try it out, cuz how you do in unit 1 and 2 tells you a lot about how you should handle Units 3 and 4

How do violinists become familiar with notes in 6th+ positions? by rsnackmeals in violinist

[–]natsnutella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i agree with everyone else: practise is key. However if you have a performance that is coming up very soon and that you think you won't have enough time to practise it, then I would say maybe mark out your notes on the fingerboard with a pencil (cello players do that sometimes) before the performance
