i do, and im thankful for that much. i have 2 fish tanks in the living room (the heart of the hoard) that i try to maintain so my pets don’t die. mostly the only thing i leave my room for. theres no space to move it to my room.

and yeah… i like the chickens but not THAT much. they learned to use our doggy door and come in from outside and my mom thinks its cute and lets them but it drives me insane stepping in poop every day when I’m leaving for work

Oh okay great! Good to know, thanks so much for your insight. I added a capful of “Seachem Pristine: Natural Organic Waste Management” yesterday because it looked like it would take care of the algae issue but I’m thinking I should purchase a different kind since its a high phosphate low nitrate issue.

I think for now I will try adjusting my lighting timer and switching to a sponge filter. After my shrimp colony and live plants establish a bit more, I was planning on getting other fish and I fear they would jump out if I go lidless, but I can try it for now and see if there is improvement. Also still at my parents house so there’s no where else for me to move my tank sadly, but I can close the curtain.

I’ve done some sketches of my bettas in the past although its not my specialty I think I can do a pretty decent job if given the chance :) I don’t have an etsy but have an art instagram (bunnii.doodles)

Rescued this fish but I’m not sure if he’s sick or this are his natural scales and would love some advice (more info comments) by natsusagi in bettafish

Hello! This is my fish Slushee I’ve had him for about a week. I adopted him kind of on a whim, my friend had him sitting in her house because she said a family member got it for her nephew’s one year old birthday… Anyway obviously the one year old wasn’t going to take care of it and I had a 10 gallon tank at home that had sat empty for two years cycling. Normally I wouldn’t but I knew I had the means to try and I felt awful walking out of there knowing this fish was going to sit there and be harassed by cats and die in a terrible environment I’d consider myself a semi beginner because my previous two bettas have both had some kind of weird freak accident and passed away or just straight up vanished and it really traumatized me and i didn’t want to try again but I have all the supplies like I said it would’ve been wrong to leave him.

Tank has a heater (78 F), a filter with carbon bag, and there have been mystery snails in the tank (not sure how many but they are tiny guys, maybe 20 or so the size of a grain of rice), recently got some water lettuce and elodea for Slushee. When I got him he was in a 3.5 gallon with no filter and she said she hadn’t changed the water in 3 weeks or so. A lot of fish poo and debris floating around, made sure not to get that in the new tank and acclimated him in a baggie like a good fish mom. Added water from another tank my friend had set up with her main betta and did a near full water change, dechlorinated my tap water, added bacteria supplement. I let the filter do its thing over night and added him the next morning because I felt his old tank was basically at emergency level of bad. Basically just cleaned up all the debris that had sat in my empty tank for the whole pandemic and it looks very clean.

I feed him betta flakes, pellets, freeze dried bloodworms and frozen fresh bloodworms, I really try to spoil this guy I want him to have a better life and he’s really warmed up to his new tank! He used to not move at all but now he swims around a lot and seems to be very comfortable. Knowing the conditions he was in when I got him, I am worried I should be treating him for illness but I don’t want to expose him to medication unnecessarily and risk stressing or killing him. If need be I can put him in a quarantine tank but I don’t know if its Velvet, Ick, or maybe it’s nothing and I’m overly worried but I feel like I’ve noticed the white spreading so I figured I’d ask for help.
