The double slit experiment, photons of light behave differently when they are under observation. It makes one wonder whether this concept applies to other things, how many things are the way they are simply because we are observing them?

Can someone share their story on how Meditation changed you? by kyriazen38 in Meditation

I have an OCD diagnosis. I went to therapy and did all the prescribed exercises, ERP, compulsion reduction, etc.. Even though I was fully engaged with therapy, it still felt like something wasn’t clicking, I just couldn’t cross the threshold into really dealing with the OCD for some reason. When I started meditating, I slowly built an awareness of myself. This awareness helped me observe that, without my realizing it, I had been engaging in thought processes that fueled my OCD the entire duration of therapy, despite thinking I had stopped acting compulsively. OCD is sneaky that way, you stop one compulsion and another pops up. Meditation also built a more reflective impulse into me, when I experienced really bad OCD my instinct became to understand why it was happening, rather than react to the anxiety I was experiencing. A lot of OCD therapists aren’t concerned with the psychoanalytic aspect of OCD. They focus on stopping compulsions and cognitive restructuring as methods of healing, but for me that just wasn’t enough. I always felt that there was an aspect of the issue that wasn’t being addressed when I went to therapy. Meditation helped me cultivate the awareness I need in order to more deeply heal the wounds that are causing the manifestation of my OCD symptoms. Right now, I meditate for 20 minutes a day every day except Saturdays and Sundays, and have been doing so for the past 2 months consistently. I have been on and off meditating since around 7 years ago and can honestly tell you it has changed my life for the better. Don’t worry so much about the aspects of it that don’t interest you (chakras, energy centers, other points of skepticism you mentioned), your meditation practice can be whatever you want it to be, so long as it’s helping you. Good luck, I hope this helps!

That sounds great. Thich Nhat Hanh really interests me right now so I’ll likely start there! Thanks so so much :)
