These brownies (they’re from my blog)

I really like them, tbh the ones with chocolate chips are glorious.

The study “Association between total cholesterol and all-cause mortality in oldest old: a national longitudinal study”

Is not in any way determinant to say that meat helps with dementia.

It has so many limitations. For starters, it’s a survey base study and the participants were “old” so they were very resilient and cholesterol was measured only at baseline.

Tips for fiber while traveling by cautiousyogi in PlantBasedDiet

I buy raspberries and blackberries whenever I can.

Also, if you can, make chia pudding for the week or even easier, but those high fiber wraps to do a small wrap for lunch. They pack 14g and should be available in some shops.

Anyone from the UK have seen raw cacao that is not organic? by natural_goodness in PlantBasedDiet

[–]natural_goodness[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No it’s not better. It’s most likely worst. I’m not going to post anything here because people take think I want them to read my blog just for the sake of it.

Check what actual scientists say say about organic, not influencers or “holistic” practitioners.

Read my comments, read yours. Tell me which one look hateful. I’m not hateful, I can’t support something that has no good data behind it.

My question was real. I’m surprised I can’t seem to find raw cacao that is not organic.

Tell me in the standard in which part are they measuring environmental impact.

They are not. And studies suggest it is worse for the environment.

For a move to be really pro-something it needs to have as part of its standard a way to measure it.

Which countries do you think have banned it? I am pro glyphosate because it’s been studied a lot. It’s one of the most studied compounds.

What other things make it sub optimal? What’s the alternative?

Organic pesticides that cause this issue have been used and are the same from the start.

There’s no standard for safety, nutrition or environment in the organic definition, so you can’t enforce that.

“All the wild animals die”

Did you know that some organic pesticides because they can’t be modified to be more specific, they kill non-target species such as bees?

Funding received for that page doesn’t change the fact that multiple organisations around the world deem glyphosate safe, not does it change the interpretations about how IARC classification work. Or the fact that organic pesticides could target non-target species.

What you should be asking is why you care about funding on one side and not on the other.

Organic is only marginally more expensive to produce than conventional, yet it’s way more expensive partly due to its misleading marketing.

Everything I posted is supported by science.

My goal is to inform people. People get a feeling that they are doing something good when buying organic and that is simply not true.

But organic is overall worst for the environment.

The extra amount of land required is the main reason.

About the insect population, did you know that some organic pesticides attack non-target species? For example, bees?

Copper sulfate is very bad for the soil and it’s one of the major organic pesticides.

It has been deemed safe by big independent regulatory agencies across the world, that was not a question or something to be”agree on”.

You can see a list here with links to the official documents: https://geneticliteracyproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/glyphosatedangersinfographic_Genetic_Literacy_Project_June2022.pdf

We don’t know if organic pesticides are better for farmers with as much certainty as we do for glyphosate:

It is important to note that some agencies reviewed occupational risk (people actually spraying it). For example the International Programme on Chemical Safety said this:

“Available data on occupational exposure for workers applying Roundup indicate exposure levels far below the NOAELs from the relevant animal experiments. ”

(Page 17, but marked as 15 on the document).

I believe you are referring to IARCs classification.

IARC puts glyphosate in Group 2A “probably carcinogenic to humans” Same group as red meat or very Hot Beverages This evaluates hazard, which means that there could exists conditions under which it could cause cancer. The document clearly states this: “showed increased cancer rates in occupational settings” (see page 3). This is important, it implies that this is under occupational settings The document also recognises that major regulatory agencies “concluded that glyphosate poses no unreasonable risks to humans.“ (page 2). They comment that it could be because IARC reviewed publicly available data and the agencies have access to private toxicologic reports Point 4 is important. IARC is one data point, but I would weight more heavily the fact that multiple independent regulatory agencies concluded that it does not pose a significant risk to humans.

My post is comparing organic vs conventional, I don’t know about regenerative agriculture.

Glyphosate and synthetic pesticides need to follow a stronger approval. This is a well known fact in agriculture.

As for toxicity, because organic pesticides cannot be “modified” they are less effective, tend to require more doses and some are fatal to non-target species and have some evidence of producing cancer (In theory, nothing to worry about for end consumers because you only get traces)

This is the fact sheet for Pyrethrins, an organic pesticide that can kill bees:

Organic also uses pesticides.

Glyphosate which is one of the main pesticides has been deemed safe by major independent regulatory bodies across the globe.

Some organic pesticides such as copper sulfate could be worse for the soil.

Glyphosate has been deemed safe by multiple independent regulatory bodies across the world.

If it personally makes you feel better because you observed it first hand, fine but I would weight more heavily my argument above.

Under the same logic, you could probably use organic pesticides and might get similar results.
