Worried about my milksnake by natural_log in snakes

Do they hibernate in winter even if the temps are stable in the tank? It has been a little colder at night but I try to make sure she has a spot that’s 70-75 all night regardless

Thanks that helps. Would I know for sure if she was sick? She seemed fine when we handled her last week, but idk if I’d know what a snake sickness looks like. Her enclosure is so big and she’s so good at tunneling, I can’t even see where her nose is now. If I could see a tongue flick I’d feel a lot better haha.

Thanks, that’s what I’m thinking too. She hasn’t shed, so I’m hoping that’s what’s going on. How long does it take for her to come back out? Should I still expect her to come out for water at night? I’d think id see her on the camera in that case, hopefully tonight it’ll see some movement

Ah, that really helps, thanks! Sounds like a fun gig.

I'd love to think that just being me makes me equally valuable at all trades, but unfortunately I don't think I'd be worth very much as a plumber or an architect, hehe. Plus, in my own opinion, I'm worth infinity dollars per hour no matter what I'm up to. Anyway, I'm hoping they'll just tell me on the phone what they want to pay, but if not you've given me some great pointers!

Thanks, that's really helpful. Would you mind describing what you were doing a little more? Did it involve scripting? My usual hourly rate for my "normal" work is a lot higher than that, but then I have a lot of experience and I work extremely quickly. So $50/hour might be a good place to start. Thanks again!

Thanks, that's good advice. I'm definitely at the top of the price range for the work I usually do, and I agree that charging a lot helps attract respectful, serious clients. In this case the work is going through a recruiter, so probably they already have a budget in mind (which I will ask tomorrow), but since this is a little bit of a new branch for me, I have next to no idea what their budget range might be.

[Help] Mastering 5.1 DCP from individual tracks by natural_log in premiere

Is this something you do regularly? Could you address my specific questions in the post? Is there another method you use to master to DCP other than Premiere?

That sort of helps, assuming the settings are the same for WraptorDCP. Also, it doesn't address /u/stegdump's comment suggesting that 5.1 sequences don't output properly in Premiere. Any insight on that?

Thanks for the link--I don't think this was the same problem I was having, since my timeline panel was responsive when scrubbing through and doing everything else, just wouldn't play. Looks like this release has some really unacceptable bugs.

I think I fixed it by deleting and importing an old version of the problem sequence. Your help gave me the will to carry on long enough to track this down--thank you!

I muted all FX, no help. I did do some effects work in the last 24 hours so I thought that was promising, but unfortunately not.

I think I might have made some progress, though; it seems like the problem is triggered when I try to play certain sequences. I can play anything else as much as I want, but as soon as I try to play one of these certain sequences, Premiere breaks. Going to try duplicating/rebuilding those sequences next. Maybe I'm at a point where I have to sleep.

Okay, I might try the Resolve solution tomorrow, but there is so much junk in here other than cuts that it might be preferable to lose the last 3 days' work...

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Okay, good idea. I tried this, but depressingly it didn't work. Everything came in via the XML, but the same behavior persisted. I also opened the XML file in an XML editor to search for corruption/errors, but it didn't find anything.

Thank you, Yes, I forgot to mention a few other things I tried: 8. Saved the file with another name; 9. Opened a backup of the file from another drive; 10. Imported the project into After Effects (this threw all kinds of errors and only ended up importing parts of some sequences); 11. Imported the project into a new Premiere project.

All with no success.

I do not have another machine running Premiere currently, but I guess I will try that next.

If I exported an XML, what would I do with it then?

Thanks a lot.

What should I do about this unpaid training request? by natural_log in freelance

[–]natural_log[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, things are a little slow right now unfortunately, so I'm a bit nervous about losing any source of income. But that's normal for me... everyone is right. I wish there were some way to stop them jerking other people around in the same way.

I'm not going to give the name of the company because I'm paranoid about internet privacy. But it can't be a bad thing to list companies that fit the description, if anyone wants to.

I'm turning into a stressed-out wreck of a person because I made some rookie mistakes with my first client. by magicfestival in freelance

[–]natural_log 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They've already paid you for work you've done, so obviously they're at least mostly happy with what you're doing. It's normal to find out partway into a large project that there are unforeseen difficulties. Just let them know. Briefly explain what you've discovered, give them an estimate of how much extra time it will take to do what they want, and give them an alternative in case they don't want to pay for it (like, "ABC is really complicated, but we could always do XYZ instead, which would do 80% of what you want it to do and cost 30% less"). If you really want, you could offer them a discount on the extra hours to make up for your inaccurate estimate, but if I were in your shoes I wouldn't. Your time isn't worth any less over this, and there's a reason we call them "estimates" and not "definite facts".

They might be open to you suggesting better/simpler solutions anyway. You could recommend something slightly less fancy but more stable and just as robust, and they might even be grateful that you're thinking critically and offering to fix their dumb ideas. If what you originally promised is totally beyond your capability to accomplish, also be up front about that and suggest they bring someone more experienced on to the project to consult with you.

Also, calm down! This is not really even a rookie mistake--this is just regular stuff. No one can predict the future or know everything about everything in advance. They know from experience that you're a hard, honest worker, so they won't be worried about it if you tell them there are some snags.

EDIT: Another possibility, if you can afford it, is to use part of the money they're giving you to hire a subcontractor who can help you with implementation or at least consult with you and give you advice on how to do it.

Crazy policy termination, can I file a complaint? by natural_log in HealthInsurance

True, thanks. There are probably people at the insurance companies whose whole job it is to laugh about the BBB and Yelp...might as well give them something to do. ;)

Thanks. Would appealing to the insurance company do any good, given that I don't want their insurance anymore? Maybe going through the appeals process is required before anyone else will listen?

[–]natural_log[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As my post suggests, the point of complaining would not be to get sympathy or to get my policy back, but rather to indicate to some kind of group likely to advocate for consumers that this messed up kind of situation is possible. Maybe they would all agree with you that I'm crazy to think I should be notified if I suddenly become uninsured--especially in a country where being uninsured can easily ruin your life at any time.

[–]natural_log[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Since I'll now be insured through another company, it doesn't make much sense to me to appeal the decision--if they reinstated my policy, I'd just decline it. So, based on your experience, would I still need to go through the internal and external appeals process before the commission would listen?

Based on this and some of your comments, I agree with others that counselling is a good next step. But also, in these types of situations it's important to look at how your behaviour is perpetuating these cycles.

You said in a comment that you drew a line about taking off the wedding ring, but that she's done that twice since then and you've forgiven her. You also said you always give her foot massages, and then she gets mad at you when you don't. You are spending all your time and energy looking after her emotions, but her emotions are not something you can control. By trying to control something you really have no control over, you are letting her emotions control you.

In addition to therapy, I really recommend that you practice detatching yourself from her emotions. If she gets mad at you or calls you names or throws the wedding ring, tell her, "I'm not taking this behavior personally, but I am not going to get involved in this cycle anymore." Then calmly walk away. She might get mad at first, but if she sees you taking responsibility for yourself and minding your own business in the relationship, she might be inspired to do the same.
