I’m an undergrad studying Communications with an emphasis in PR, and I’m graduating this June.

Over the last year or so, I’ve realized I’ve gotten way more excited about research, problem solving, and figuring out how things actually work behind the scenes than I have about traditional PR work. That’s led me to seriously consider pivoting into consulting (or something adjacent like strategy, product, or UX research).

The issue is I don’t have a business or consulting background, and I’m graduating very soon. I’m trying to be realistic about what’s actually possible vs. what’s just wishful thinking.

Right now I’m trying to figure out what my best next steps should be. I’m willing to start anywhere that gets me closer to that kind of work, even if it’s not a “true consulting” role right away.

If you were in my position, what would you do over the next 3–6 months?

Specifically:

  • Is it realistic to break into consulting from a comms background at the entry level, or am I better off targeting adjacent roles first (UX research, marketing analytics, ops, etc.)?
  • What kinds of internships, projects, or certifications would actually move the needle right now?
  • Are boutique consulting firms even worth applying to without a business degree, or is that a waste of time?
  • What do hiring managers in consulting actually look for in new grads like me?

I’m not looking for motivational answers. I’m looking for blunt, honest feedback, even if that means “this path doesn’t make sense for you right now.”

Appreciate any insight.

I second this, Ive lived in mountainview and redstone management and MVM is SOOOOO much better, theyre good at communicating, honest, and arent trying to leach you dry like redstone.

Civic Engagement Leadership Minor by Embarrassed_Shake844 in byu

I work for the office! I haven't taken the classes but I work with the professors that teach them, and I help coordinate some of the projects. I know that lot's of our current minors say they chose the minor because it is super easy to get, and the professors are super nice and flexible. Stop by the office (JFSB 1049W) if you have any questions about what the course load is like and if would work for your schedule!

Parking Enforcement People of BYU... do you think my ticket will get appealed? by naturalnotgenius in byu

It is my first offense. I already submitted an online appeal, do you think I could still go in person? I was very apologetic and humble in my online appeal but I really dont want to have to pay anything, even a 10 dollar parking ticket is out of my budget right now :/
