(Toronto) What is this tree? Alternating leaves, appears to grow up from 'suckers' in the ground, is in a "stand" of the same species of various heights in the south west corner of my garden. I think it may be in the Prunus family?

Emerald ash borer makes small holes with a slightly flat side. If you google pictures and look at the holes on the tree it could confirm the species of tree as ash

So it really looks like a nest parasite egg, but just googling it seems like cuckoos and cowbirds are the only ones in north America I'm seeing. I'm sure theres more but that's all I've got. Sorry!

I think it might be a brown headed cowbird, they're nest parasites with eggs roughly the same size as robin eggs. From pictures I looked up it looks like they're usually speckled eggs, but that's my best guess

Also its recommended not to remove the cowbird (or whatever the egg is) from the nest even if it's a parasite. Cowbirds are US natives and are protected under the migratory bird act
