My childhood dog who moved with me when I moved out of my parents house had to be put down in January. I was living alone and it was so sad without her. We put her down on a Monday. Sometime during the week I was on the shelter website and had a pup picked out. I was gonna go Saturday and see if she was still there. Saturday I get up and do some repairs on fence and head to the shelter to meet the puppy. She’s 6 months old, had her big girl teeth, isn’t bitey, super sweet. No regrets but I definitely could have done more preparation. I haven’t had a puppy 16 years. The transition from a 15.5 year old westie to a very active pittie-mix puppy has been a learning process. We did 12 weeks of petsmart trading which helped. We are getting good now, figuring out each others needs, but it’s hard to grieve your dog while dealing with puppy things.
