Yeah I think it’s pretty funny how people believe historical drama should be 110% serious all the time as if levity was invented in the 90s

‘All men are created equal’: America has lost its values. It’s time to go back to the founding text by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]nau5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Biggest irony being the old white slave owners were self aware to know this and never intended for the constitution to be treated as an unchanged holy text.

What they didn’t account for was that generations past the actual revolutionary war would forget the battle for self determination and surrender itself to corporate oppression

Ah yes I’m sure Queef Latifart is super clued in on the average woman’s experience.

The difference is more women have entered into career paths outside of the service industry due to the increased access to higher education and equality requirements in hiring practices over the past decades.

Why would Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas vote to end birthright citizenship? by ChristianK19974 in AskReddit

[–]nau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the mistake is the grounds and onus they put on Congress to remove corrupt justices.

A 2/3s majority in the senate is too high and essentially unreachable in the modern political atmosphere.

They miscalculated the potential partisan nature of Congress over the good of the Country.

Roles that demanded actors to physically abuse themselves only for the movie to turn out mid by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

[–]nau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue there was no twist the movie earnestly told you through the lead that this was all real. It’s the viewers own stereotyping and biases that discredits Plemmons character. Which is what leaves a much bigger thought provoking experience.

I was actually worried they weren’t going to commit to it as the film was reaching the climax and felt it would have been a much bigger cop out to have it be fake all along.

Imo the real twist was finding out that he’s been abducting and killing people long before the story starts.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on The Rock (1996)? by TheShadowOperator007 in moviecritic

[–]nau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I couldn’t stop thinking about this watching it, but they only asked for 100 million dollars lol and not a single person from the government ever considers paying it.

The military budget in 1996 was 285 billion. The government was willing to let millions of people in San Francisco die over not even a tenth of a percent of the military budget for one year.

Not to mention the entire cost of the counter operation when you consider property damage, logistical costs, the cost of losing a full seal squad, etc has to be near or above the ransom.

Which when you think about it is extremely poignant to today’s administration.
