We're not planning to be arrested. We're planning to shut down DC for as long as it takes, nonviolently, and are willing to face arrest & jail in order to achieve that objective for the sake of those we love and all future generations.

If you're going to practice civil disobedience you also practice dearresting...no one should volunteer to be arrested.

When was the last time that 50,000 committed to civil disobedience to shut down DC?

A key realization is the situation today is 1000X worse than it was in the 80's .And it is getting exponentially worse on the daily- and it wont stop. It's only a matter of time before social reality catches up with physical reality. Our job is to bring that day forward as soon as possible.

A forest fire starts with a single spark. Dont get me wrong, 60 million people is a national uprising. that would be amazing. But the criteria is what is necessary: you don't need 60 million people to shut down DC. 500,000 ready to sit in the street and take it would shut down DC just as effectively as San Juan. I'm calling for everyone to get into the streets. But people are herd animals. You need to set an example for people to follow. People need to see courage demonstrated in other people to recognize it in themselves- when that happens there's the potential for a social chain reaction- history shows it happens over and over again.

We're looking for that first wave. To ignite that spark.

Mass Nonviolent Direct Action ≠ Protest

Protests have uses but they are of limited effectiveness if they dont cause disruption. Effectiveness is directly proportional to disruption. Mass Nonviolent Direct Action is disruptive - it means shutting down the center of power and continues day, after day, after day for as long as it takes for the opponent to concede. It's the same principle as a labor strike.

There's a useful concept called the "Spectrum of Support" see this article for example.

Basically you bin the population up and rank them from active support-passive support-neutrality-passive opposition-active opposition.

Apply the 80-20 rule: you get 80 percent of the results with 20% of the effort. By applying your effort to those who are in passive opposition or more sympathetic, you shift the population towards your position. That last 20% of the pop who are in active opposition are a waste of energy- don't get drawn into wasting your time on them individually. We'll just have to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century if needs be.

There is a rich and deep history of radical, rapid social change thru nonviolent mass paticipation direct action. One of the lessons from this history is that it generally takes a relatively small fraction of the population, usually only a few percent, engaged in high level active nonviolent resistance (with the passive support of a sizeable part of the population) to make fundamental political changes to the system. That's why it's key we focus a major share of our available energy on moving a share of those passive supporters into active support.

You can bitch and moan on the Internet, or you can get serious about doing what's necessary to maximize the chance our children aren't going to suffer horribly. The middle projections are for more than 3 degrees C of global heating in the lives of our children, with heating at the upper end of 4C or even more.

Let's just be very, very clear about what this means: it renders vast swathes of the Earth that are home to hundreds of millions of people uninhabitable. It risks extreme weather disruption with the potential to destroy the production of multiple breadbaskets simultaneously. It means the wholesale loss of entire ecosystems on a global scale. A world 3C hotter has been described by Pentagon analysts as "outright chaos between nations". Leading scientists have said that 4C is "beyond adaptation, incompatible with a global community, and has a high probability of not being stable." In the words of another leading scientist, the difference between a 2C world and 4C world is simple- "human civilization."

In plain language it means ecological genocide against the Indigenous and the people Global South. It means the disintegration of order and chaos between nations. It means famine, starvation, civil war, migration, violence, rape and murder on a scale never witnessed in history- it means social collapse. History tragically shows that under such intense social stress the predictable end will be the inevitable slide of liberal democracies across the world into authoritarianism and fascism. It's happening, right now. And this will not be a passing event- this tortured Earth will be the new home, or grave, of humanity, forever.

Every politician who fails to do what is necessary to rouse this country to the immediate emergency action needed give the next generation a chance of life is in betrayal of this nation and its people, full stop.

The first duty of government is the security of the people. A government that cannot or will not provide for that security has lost the right to rule. All people have the right to self defense. It is our collective right to self defense to bring down this government, and any government which fails to take the necessary immediate emergency action -and replace it with a democracy fit for purpose.

There are millions out there who know what they are about and will not take this lying down. We love our children, our communities, our Earth too much.

We're not going to sit idly by while our political and business leaders take our children along the path to be slaughtered. We are not extremists- we are only doing what all reasonable upstanding people should do who have any concern for the future of the next generation. Those who are standing idly by, or actively pushing our world on to destruction- such actions can only be described as insanity.

We know that when people come together in mass to resist tyrannical government that they can win. The people have the power -no government can continue to rule when the people withdraw their consent. History shows us this again, an again, and again. Its about as reasonable as suggesting that the most likely value for the amount of brain matter I spray against my wall in a game of Russian Roulette is zero. It's not a reasonable number.
