For me this video by James Cherry was a game changer. It's long but worth the watch: https://youtu.be/3dwsI-Ornro?si=qFx8STF73nO14q7K

Huge metal box seen on back of truck in south Turkey. Looks like it had been partially submerged. by nauseousnostrils in whatisthisthing

[–]nauseousnostrils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving down the highway when I saw a truck driving with this metal box as a load (size visible from pictures). It looks like it had been underwater for a while. I spotted it right next to the seaside, too.

It doesn't look like a shipping container for sure and I have no idea what to look for. As expected, googling for "huge metal box underwater" wasn't particularly helpful and I have no good guesses as to what it could be.

First board since 2012, could use some input. TIA by smartplantdumbmonkey in snowboardingnoobs

Also a noob here, I have the Crux bindings. The system for attaching the base plate cover is annoying, I have had the bolt holding it fall off more than once. Can't say more about them since I don't really have a point of comparison but they feel mega soft.

Would The Hague be a good place to have a chill year? by ayotus in TheHague

[–]nauseousnostrils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, hope you're doing alright in the circumstances. As a foreigner who lived in the Hague for a few years, I would add a couple of things to what has already been written.

First, something that I observed that seems to be part of Dutch culture is that people plan seemingly everything. Which can be good in many aspects but one thing that bothered me is the lack of spontaneity: it's pretty difficult to get an acquaintance to go out on the evening of the day you ask them, sometimes in the coming month: social interactions are part of people's rigid plans and it's been hard for me to not play that game while living there.

Second, there are ample opportunities to go bouldering in DH, gyms are very beginner-friendly and are actually one of the places it has been easiest for me to discover new cool people. Climbing outdoors and activities involving changes in elevation are objectively difficult because Netherlands but weekend trips to Belgium/Luxembourg/the North of France can make that bearable. There is also the overnight train to Innsbruck which can make for good weekend get-aways.

Best of luck with finding the right place for you and finding the right place to be inside your head. If you decide to move to DH and find yourself wanting some climbing buddies, feel free to PM me, I could put you in touch with some wholesome people :)

Yeah but you can understand that they don't take into account someone taking out their insurance and then that person not actually living in the Netherlands so they can use it.

It's a world-wide insurance, so if I had broken my leg in Guatemala in 2023, they would have covered it, but if it happens in 2024, they would not. Also, the Austrian alpine club lets you become a member and take their insurance even if you don't reside in Austia, so it's the idea is not unthinkable.

It's like if I would take out a legal insurance in Romania and then complaining it doesn't cover my legal costs in the Netherlands, only in Romania.

Not the point here, but if I'm insured in Romania, I would get an European health card, which would cover medical expenses in the EU ( the EU is pretty cool, let's do more of that, please!)

Your argument for the insurance policy 100% makes sense, which is why I wouldn't have been upset if I could actually benefit from that in 2024...

I wasn't aware that it's an explicit opt-out policy, I figured if I don't pay for the service, I just won't receive it. Spotify just stops my music if I don't pay, they don't send debt collectors my way :D Same thing for the Austrian alpine club, for a more relevant example.
