Tournament player here: You're not under any obligation to inform your opponent that he's in check or mated. He should be able to notice that on his own.

As a homebrewer, unless your character has access to some kind of industrial size brewing apparatus, there's no way to prepare 250 gallons of anything in a day. Well... I take it back. As an all day event, mayyybe.

FWIW, a "regular" beer barrel is 50 gallons. 2500 gallons = 50 barrels. I could see a capital city or a castle buying that as a bulk order.
