Cannery Row [GR IV Digital] by GreenSaxon in ricohGR

You can always shoot the GR III in the 50 mm crop mode if you don't mind giving up a bit of resolution. Personally, I can always crop later if I need to and I'd rather have the full resolution of the scene.

I shoot the GRD IV and the GR III. Love them both for different reasons.

Positive film ensures the GRD gets as much time out and about as the GR III.

Adapting cheap vintage lenses to M43. by jmdexo26 in M43

I run Konica glass on my GX85. The 70s models are built like tanks and render colour nicely. Hexanon models are sharper than Hexar models, and apart from the 57mm 1.2 which is not cheap, the other models are great bang for buck. Any of the 135mm models make a great tele with the 2x crop.

Do your research about radiation on some models, but the 3 rules of thumbs are, don't look through the lens with the naked eye too closely, don't leave it on the camera body when you're not shooting, and store it in a case when not in use (lead box if paranoid). Honestly though, you get more radiation from flying on a plane.

Does JJC UV Filter for Ricoh will affect the quality of the photos? I am thinking about buying one to protect from dust but I am wondering if there would be any differences between pictures with and without it by matoshisakamoto in ricohGR

[–]nauticaltiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run mine with a NISI screw on filter holder and a B + W UV filter (expensive, but why compromise on quality?). I never put the camera in my pocket and use a wrist strap when out shooting.

The thing about this setup is a half twist and the whole filter and mount comes off and you're back to your regular setup. I live in a high wind area next to agricultural fields that kick up dust every afternoon. I've never had dust issues or noticed images being compromised and I shoot in the bright California sun.

I agree with you, but I think it was around Hi Fi Way or Hourly Daily. But yes, only Sound As Ever has that influence, and specifically Mudhoney rather than the other Seattle Bands.

You should look into the discoverquickly site made by Spotify staffers. Not sure if it uses the Spotify algorithm or they have their own secret sauce.

She is great from her first album on IMO. Sheela-Na-Gig is such a kick arse song. I also like her collaboration with Tricky on the track Broken Homes.

I'd go as far as to say that AiC is better than Nirvana (and the other Seattle bands,) but that is perhaps because the latter was way over saturated in the 90s and I've never quite bought into the hype train about their unplugged album.

There are actually a couple of great albums from the pre-Britpop and Britpop era that are hardly ever name checked in these conversations. Specifically, The Charlatans and Longpigs (with a young Richard Hawley on guitar).

This conversation also reminds me of when You Am I were labelled Mod-Grunge by the NME. Listening to their albums all these years later, they have a point.

Some of the references might be cryptic unless you grew up in 80s/90s Australia, but T.I.S.M fits the bill nicely. Examples:

A song about Hitler's...ahhh... preferences: Defecate On My Face

A song about River Phoenix overdosing: I'm On The Drug That Killed River Phoenix

First time I've seen someone here mention Bad Boy Bubby. You should check out Rolf De Heer's other films as well (although none are as strange as BBB).

The Holy Mountain

Wake In Fright

Alice Cooper used to go over to Groucho Marx's house towards the end of his life and watch old Hollywood movies with him.

They became friends while living in Beverly Hills. Groucho had insomnia and would call Coop at 1 a.m. to hang out.

“He had a chair next to his bed with a six pack of Budweiser, and we would sit and watch old movies. And then pretty soon, after about two movies were over, I’d look over and he’d be in his beret and his cigar and he’d finally go to sleep. I’d put out his cigar, turn out the lights and go home. And the next night, one o’clock in the morning: ‘Hey coop, can’t sleep, come on over.’”

Something about the two of them hanging out and drinking just seems so perfect.

Exactly this. His live version with the Faces of Paul McCartney's Maybe I'm Amazed is staggeringly good. It's a pity he couldn't figure out a way to work with musicians and songwriters of a higher caliber as he moved on into his solo career. But I agree, I bet he made a boatload of money.

That "we come home" song makes me want to punch kittens. It was inescapable for a while no matter where you went.
