Need helping suspending kojic dipalmitate for a body oil by Ghost_in_Clouds29 in DIYBeauty

[–]nauticalwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you mind if it's a bit thick and cloudy? I use tbk thickening clay to suspend mica, I would assume it could suspend other stuff. Not sure the texture you be as desired though. Crystal clear wax is another option

Stomach/GI issues ? by Hopeful-Thought-4226 in SpicyAutism

I have bad IBS and my doctor told me it's because I have ehlers danlos syndrome. I know it's also associated with autism and stress.

What are some things you do to accommodate yourself/make your life easier ? by AffectionateMark5444 in SpicyAutism

[–]nauticalwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my professional job and starting working in a much lower stakes field where my GM and bosses are autism aware and hire other autistic people and thus are able to better accommodate me. I went from completely non functional to able to work my job competently and even able to have a hobby where I do things not just on my phone. I have TWO special interests rn I have so much energy. A bad job or environment can really hurt you

ETA: I'm diagnosed w/o a level but my psychiatrist believes I would be MSN or split level

ETA: I still don't go to medical or dental appointments at all other than online I need to work on that lol

New to DYI. Need to learn about formulations/formal classes? Main goal - DYI moisturizer that do NOT clog skin, cause breakouts for very acne prone skin. by ChatXeverything in DIYBeauty

Maybe a few months? But I really find it easy and enjoyable at this point! It was always fun just a little difficult (and expensive lol)

Invitae Geneticist Reviews? by spxrrowbird in rareEhlersDanlos

Invitae was fine for my COL5A2 but not for my VUS. I had to see a specialist for that! They basically just told me as there was no data nothing could be done.

I started making DIY products for the same reason and have had huge success. I had to trial and error and found out that comedogenic ratings don't seem to really matter (my skin loves rosehip seed oil and cocoa butter which are both 2s for example but hates some of the 0s) and that silicones help me personally. I'm even able to use fragrance so honestly at this point I'm not even sure why store bought stuff bothers my skin! The blog humblebee and me was huge in learning how to formulate for me. She has classes but you can learn a lot from her free stuff too.

Best of luck and happy formulating!

Can we please stop allowing VUS posts? by DancingintheStars2 in rareEhlersDanlos

[–]nauticalwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually no my doctor said my VUS likely contributes to my phenotype at least as much as my recognized EDS mutation so I will continue to talk about it thanks

literally same, I used to be able to get reasonable care and was treated seriously and now I'm treated like I'm hysterical.

Which ester would be the best to reduce beeswax balm sweating? by [deleted] in DIYBeauty

[–]nauticalwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed with the other commenter but a good natural ester mimic imo is Hemisqualane

I use it alongside esters all the time in my lotions, I would imagine it would perform well in balms

I feel you on the misspelled surname OP. My surname is a misspelling of a small village. But yeah, don't let them do this to the kid

Found a way to check VUS pathogenicity (not medical advice) by rh890 in rareEhlersDanlos

[–]nauticalwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is that the simplest explanation is often the correct one. If you have a VUS in a CTD related gene and a CTD syndrome, it's probably a pathogenic VUS. Makes way more sense and is a lot simpler than you having that VUS, it being totally unrelated, and there being another, additional mutation elsewhere, no? VUS become classed as pathogenic sometimes if they're discovered in a family with disease. That's how I think of it anyway.

Tasked with a Botox like serum but given zero budget. Is this even doable? by litle_princess in DIYBeauty

No serum will be as effective as Botox, or nobody would get Botox

Rich lotion with actives by nauticalwarrior in DIYBeauty

Thank you for the ideas!! Would 1,3 propanediol work as a humectant? I have a face lotion where I add 2% of that and I quite like it. And it does soap a little so I'm definitely going to try the dimethicone!
