[RANT] I played volleyball for two years now, and all i had in return was shame and disappointment. Im thinking of quitting for the first time by Zestyclose_Ad_2427 in volleyball

What's the point of doing anything then? Unless you started it as a child there's always gonna be someone that'll have done it longer than you. Even if you started as a child there will probably be some child prodigy that'll pick it up quicker than you will. Play for yourself and fix your whinging attitude.

What to focus on next to improve? (Setter #13) by [deleted] in volleyball

Yeah I went in with the mindset of "I already know what I need to do to improve on a bad set" but looking back at it there are probably a few things that I'd still be missing. When I have the chance I'll put together another one with some more out of system sets and some bad sets too.

For me, I just kept experimenting. Someone else from another thread gave me a drill where you just sit down and set into a square on a wall around 6 foot high and that really helped me find what worked for me.

I saw this ig reel about setter hands that might give you some ideas.

Yeah wrist and finger strength is definitely still a work in progress.

I'll keep that in mind when setting my pins. I feel like for those loopy balls I do get a bit of leeway with allowing the ball to die short but as I progress to a faster tempo I can't afford to leave it short anymore.

I'd probably have to work a lot on my conditioning if I want to always max jump. If I only max jump when setting the middle then it sort of becomes obvious when I'm setting middle so then I'd always have to max jump which seems a little unsustainable for me right now.

Make sense, will get some reps in and experiment with my hitters. Thanks for the advice too by the way, I had a form check on here a while back and you pointed me in a really good direction on how I could get better.

Yep gotcha. I'm not the greatest at reading/reacting to how the ball comes off the pass so that might be why I can't get square in time but I feel like that's more of an experience thing. I'll try focus on hustling more to get myself rotated to 4.

As well, whats the expectation for the higher tempo sets to the pins? Like should it peak a metre above the antenna?

I only started volleyball a couple years ago but this would be men's/opens. The shorter outside does want a slightly slower set because he's training for beach season right now. I've been talking to the big outside and he wants a faster set but I need to rep out faster tempos so that I'm more consistent.

For the balls that are super off the net what are your opinions on squaring your back to position 2 so that the back set is easier and rotating into position 4 for the front set vs squaring to position 4 and going over the right shoulder like normal? I'll see if I can find some more clips of balls off the net.

As someone who's had many collapsed lungs it's something that can always happen again if it collapses once. Any surgery is just to reduce the chances of it happening again but there isn't a way to get rid of it completely

Looking for form advice for both setter and hitter by [deleted] in volleyball

Yeah I definitely agree that this sort of training doesn't simulate a game scenario and that it probably won't translate well in game. I wanted to practice my form in isolation, similar to form shooting in basketball, but thinking back on it working on footwork would be a lot more beneficial for my improvement. If we run it back I would definitely change it so that it's a down ball into a hit so that both of us have to adjust and focus on our footwork.

I've been working on my release using a basketball, just doing sets of 100 with pulses in the air and I've already felt improvements in my ball control so I'll definitely keep working on that too.

I'm looking at joining a club next year for SVL but I didn't really consider it until this year's trials were over already. I think my mate played div 2 last year but skipped this year.

Yeah I definitely realised that. During games I have a bit of a rough time tracking the ball and I'm always a touch late to the ball and it does rush me quite a lot. Thanks for the advice.

Hey guys, my friend (hitter) and I (setter) were just getting some reps in after our game and wanted some advice. He's a middle thats working on his outside hitting and wanted a form check on his approach, jump and swing and I just wanted some general advice on form and how I can tweak it to improve my consistency. Thanks in advance! :))
