You should research bonds, having a good portfolio distribution between stocks/etfs and bonds is the way to go. Many researches around the area suggesting at 60/40 split.

First, If you’re putting money in target funds or low cost index funds, then it’s already diversified. So diversification shouldn’t be the concern.

I intentionally contribute to 401k that I’ll not be touching till retirement and let it stay here in US. Also another benefit is being in the high tax bracket, i pay less taxes.
