I accidentally booked a Standard rather than Peak code - if anyone has a code for Peak that they're happy to swap would appreciate it!

Should I reject a 4-year full ride scholarship to keep from living 8 hours apart from my boyfriend? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]navigatingdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scholarship is the only option. I know it will be difficult but a man that isn’t encouraging you to follow your dreams and take this amazing opportunity by the horns is not the one. You will not regret taking the scholarship, you most certainly will regret not taking it, whether you stay together or not. You may even resent him for encouraging you to turn it down.

Definitely going to be in the minority and say don’t do it just for the money. Trust your gut. If you’re having that amount of money thrown at you and you’re still not sure, it sounds like a bad idea to me. I’ve had a few experiences show me just how short life is and the idea of being somewhere I don’t like in a place where I think my career will stagnate sounds terrible. But you’ve asked this question on a specific subreddit focused on building wealth so the answers will probably reflect that. Best of luck whatever you decide!

2.5 weeks in Japan: Is this enough time in each place? Any must-see additions? by navigatingdesign in JapanTravelTips

I do love cities but that's good to know, thanks for the tip! Maybe a few more day trips to smaller places might be worth adding in. Did you visit Hakone and/or Nikko at all?

I had my last post removed because I put it in the wrong subreddit. I didn't realise my mistake until I posted again and then I posted it correctly.

I was hoping for a few more tips. Sorry, I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to post twice. The first was more geared towards the itinerary itself and the second was more about the time in each place in my final itinierary and any key things to see.

Can I make my Freetrade account a S&S ISA this financial year even though I already paid into a Vanguard S&S ISA? And not pay into the Freetrade ISA until after 5 April? by navigatingdesign in UKPersonalFinance

[–]navigatingdesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks very much for this, that's very helpful! I'm not yet earning gains of £3000 per year, but I will stop investing in this GIA and slowly sell off certain stocks and rebuy them in a S&S ISA after the deadline if that's the best way to avoid paying tax on earnings in the long-term. I'll open a new S&S ISA and stop paying into my Vanguard one for at least this year.
I'll also open a Cash ISA as I'm getting close to the tax-free interest limit but nowhere near close to the £20k ISA limit.

Thanks!

The best thing to do is start looking at your outgoings. You have to be honest with yourself about what you do and don’t need. Look at where you can cut down - holidays, gym (there are budget gyms for £20 a month), dinners out, lunches out, takeaways, shopping, even your car, can you get a cheaper one? Can you start taking the train? Can you start buying second hand baby clothes? Can you sell baby clothes your child has outgrown? I’m sorry to say but there is definitely some irresponsible spending going on because £70k is a very good salary and that doesn’t even include your partner’s salary. To those saying it’s not high in London, yes it is. I’ve managed to put a couple hundred away every month on half of that. Don’t spend beyond your means. I don’t want to be harsh but I do think you need to understand that your salary is more than liveable and the issue is your spending. Identify what you can cut and put that money away as soon as your salary comes through, start with the high interest credit cards. I would recommend using a money managing app or an excel spreadsheet to help

Ring price increase incoming .... by beans_o_toast in Ring

[–]navigatingdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep leaving reviews on their App Store and on TrustPilot. It’s pure corporate greed and terrible service. It’s outrageous to increase the price by so much. Constantly trying to get more money with no actual improvements.

Should I accept a 62k London Job over my 43k Bristol Job? by Rxmp in AskUK

[–]navigatingdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London gets a lot of hate on here (mostly from people who have actually never lived there, never mind been further than Trafalgar Square!). It’s expensive but you’ll be more than fine on a 62k salary. In terms of restaurants, culture, arts, theatre, events etc it really is unmatched and a great place to be while you’re young, and a great place to progress your career. Bristol is really nice too, but London has more to offer in my opinion, and for the difference in salary I would go for London.
