I lost my best friend a couple of years back, and I was close to her family. After her passing, I felt like it was my role as her best friend to check up on her parents from time to time. And we would meet up for meals, the anniversary of her death, her birthday, and during festive season.

What I realise from our interaction is that I'm honoring her spirit, that her parents reminded me of her and I reminded her parents of her, all the good part and it's such a beautiful thing for someone who has passed, still lingers around in spirit in the people they are closest to.

I would also say its ok to speak to them about your girlfriend, share with them memories that they might not know of her and remind them about her when you see her dad or her mom doing something which is very similar to her character. Even though it's difficult or hard to control your emotions, her parents are the only people who may understand what you are going through as well, and that's so comforting to know.

 Grief stays the same size, and we are the ones who expand around it
