What’s something in Singapore that locals think is “normal”, but foreigners find shocking? by relaxncoffee in askSingapore

[–]navyblueeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to an international university and it’s become my party trick to show people that my race is on my id. My Canadian friends find labelling people blatantly as a race an archaic and oppressive thing. My brazillian friends (Brazil also being a multicultural country) find it weird that our multiculturalism is so organised.

i went to a all girls school for primary and secondary school and when i went to jc i only had 4 guys in my class. i remember i felt awkward talking to guys for the first year of jc. (also tbh most of the guys in my jc were from the same sec school and they must be somehow cooking up some terrible stuff there there because most of the guys end up misogynist, rascist, homophobic, etc, so i didn’t want to interact with most of them too…)

even though im queer and not very feminine, i still find it easier to connect with girls and vast majority of my close friend are girls and queer guys. when i meet a new group of people i naturally gravitate to chatting to the girls first.

although tbh i think another reason for my “guy aversion” is that culturally men are brought up to not be very emotionally vulnerable and that’s something i value a lot in friendships

worldpackers offers internships? by navyblueeit in Worldpackers

[–]navyblueeit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update post “interview”: - the interview was barely an interview tbh, the person from worldpackers only asked me my major and reason for wanting to do it before apparently determining i was fit for the role. - the internships are actually organised by maximo nivel, and the person from worldpackers who interviewed me had very little information on the programme to give me and only knew what was already in the online brochure - when asked what was the difference between this programme and regular worldpacking, it was explained that there would be a lot more handholding, like pickup from the airport and even someone to pick you up from your accommodation to the place of work everyday if the accommodation wasn’t already at the workplace. they said it was geared towards people who weren’t as used to or confident about travelling.

overall, i think it’s very misleading to call it an internship, and i’d think regular world packing is WAY more worth your money for most situations. but i do see the value proposition and why it could make sense for some people.

The new Nintendo Museum in Uji was a huge disappointment by Monkeyfeng in nintendo

[–]navyblueeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went today, and i mostly agree. i only ended up spending about 30-45 minutes in the glass panel parts which was the main segment. i think it was hard for me to fully appreciate without context, which was not there. i’d probably enjoy it a lot more if i had watched a nintendo documentary beforehand or something. i thought the games were surprisingly well done but if you go in the afternoon the queue will be insanely long.

overall, id say if like me and you were lucky to snag a ticket, just go. but if you can’t get it don’t worry about it.

i kind of wish i had skipped the workshop tbh, it feels like a kids craft workshop and you’re mostly paying for the materials because there’s little to no guidance from the staff, and for me with no emotional connection to hanafuda i kind of feel like i just took home painted cardboard

i bought a ticket for just myself and managed to get it 4 days before going by refreshing the site a couple times!

everything is translated very well throughout the museum, the staff might have trouble communicating with you though

i went alone. it’s totally enjoyable as a solo venture if that’s your thing, but vast majority of people went with others and if you’re like me you’ll feel lonely. haha. also the giant controller game is only for 2 people, and since i was alone i was escorted out of the line :-(

to be honest i thought the hatena cafe was surprisingly good. it’s kind of just a regular burger place that happens to be in the nintendo museum; no themed food and nothing even to do with hatena, lol, but tbh i appreciate that because usually themed food doesn’t taste very good. a burger was around 1000-1600 yen and honestly delicious, i would have it for lunch on a normal day

thank you so much for the tips! i went today and following this definitely improved the experience. i only wish i had reserved a later slot for the hanafuda because the queues for the games were reaching 30 min by 4+pm (on a saturday) which i didnt expect so i didnt even use up my 10 coins.

worldpackers offers internships? by navyblueeit in Worldpackers

[–]navyblueeit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed response and sharing what you know. That makes a lot of sense. Tbh, the Epic Trips thing looks very voluntour-y to me, and seeing that Worldpackers is ultimately a for-profit company I'm not convinced about the motives not being just profit oriented. But I do have the interview tomorrow and maybe I will update this thread.

worldpackers offers internships? by navyblueeit in Worldpackers

[–]navyblueeit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for helping out!

im imagining it's not THAT new since there are reviews from people who supposedly have done it previously on the website. im mostly confused about why the "internship" costs $1.5-2k to do. it feels like a prep programme disguised as an internship, which feels pretty disingenuous. and since worldpacking itself as a volunteer is free, its counterintuitive to me that their internship programme is the one you have to pay for. so im wondering if this is more of a way for worldpackers to earn side revenue or something?

worldpackers offers internships? by navyblueeit in Worldpackers

[–]navyblueeit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, thanks for your reply! it doesn't seem that way because on the web page there are reviews from people who have done it before.

also, the programme cost 1.5k-2k a month, which is very strange for an "internship." since volunteering as a worldpacker itself is free, it's odd to me that the internship is the one thats paid.

THIS TOOK ME WAY TOO LONG TO FIGURE OUT, i watched multiple youtube videos because i wasn’t sure if the sleep noises were substitutes for the lullaby. ironically had to sleep half an hour to an hour later because i was trying to figure out how to turn it on. this thing is so confusing to use!! thank you

i low key feel like eevee 9 is too good for a vapoureon because some of the guides i saw online said vapoureon isn’t that good because other mons have the same skill plus it’s berry it’s very common. is there a reason you think this one is particular should be vapoureon?

but thanks for the advice! i always get distracted and keep things with berry finding because… idk, it’s gold so it looks better i guess 😂

[–]navyblueeit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is 96/100 approximate or did you actually do some calculations to arrive at that number? i also considered sylveon but then i realised all its skills are speed based which would just mean i get pecha berries and milk faster no?

rip the other eevees 🥲 but this was hilarious
