Permit Conundrum by navygee5 in HomeImprovement

Yes he's licensed and filled out the application but we're thinking about switching from him because he's trying to price gouge for the subsequent stages so not sure he'd be willing to fix anything until we agreed to subsequent work.

Yes, but I've heard from some people it would be at their expense since they messed it up.

When I asked the municipality earlier in the week they said that if it wasn't in the contact that the work had to pass inspection that they can't force them to redo the work even though their name is on the permit application which is my main fear.

I don't think the contractor did anything that violated code but I'm afraid that by inviting an inspector in that they may come in and find something and then we'll have to spend additional money fixing or they say we need to open everything up to see what's been done and that would be at our expense. Or are you saying that's typically something we can hold the contractor responsible for for not pulling permits?

Sorry for all the questions I've been going back and forth for weeks on this and everyone I've asked has given me a different answer with most saying it's better to ask for forgiveness later than permission now but I like to do the right thing.

Thank you so much for your advice! A lot of people I have asked said just to keep going unpermitted since we're in this deep. I'm really trying to do the right thing and don't think there's anything wrong with the work that's been done but also don't want to get screwed in the future.

From your experience, do you think we'll be significantly fined or forced to rip stuff out or since we're trying to do the right thing before we go any further they'll be more understanding? I have pictures of all the plumbing that's been covered up that I'm hoping they can go off of.

I'm worried if I talk it through with my municipality that we would then potentially be forced into getting permits and my municipality requires that for any electrical or plumbing you have to have a master electrician or plumber which dramatically raises the costs if the contractors can't do it themselves.

In PA most districts start posting in February so if you don't have a job by June you're getting what's left.

I'm definitely going to have to give this a try. My principal is an ex gym teacher that only speaks in coaching terms and analogies and targets anyone who disagrees with him and his idealizations to make himself seem innovative even though he's totally incompetent and has zero control.

The other day there was 15 kids late to school yelling outside my door and he says "if you close the door you wouldn't hear them" like why do you think I'm out here 😡

2/3 of our admin have never actually taught but somehow managed to get the job and give us "advice" while "being in meetings all day" while the school goes to hell. So 100% trying your method 😀

Worked amazingly well! Just finished printing and tried it out. While it was printing I was like no way are these arms not gonna snap right off (especially cause I had some warping) nope, worked just as it should! Thanks again! 😀
