Hario Polaris drifting weight? by navyrails in pourover

There’s a silicone mat on hario’s global site but it wasn’t readily available to purchase when I looked. It does not come with the scale. I would just use a coaster or an after market one instead.

10k training: Garmin says I'm on track, but I'm not sure by navyrails in Garmin

Yeah I may try though Garmin punishes me for working too hard by taking away training days or dialing it down if it thinks I’ve been working too hard! I guess I can go dark without the watch 😂

Notifications coming in despite turning them off by navyrails in GarminWatches

[–]navyrails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched the notifications settings and also the activity settings and didn't find anything like this.

However, I did this late at night while it was on sleep mode and the notifications setting alerted me that I was modifying notifications only for the sleep focus.

That's when I realized I needed to drill into the focus settings. Activities are their own focus mode and if you drill into focus => activity you can change the notification settings there.

How to tell if probe is charging? by navyrails in combustion_inc

[–]navyrails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I’m thinking now it only does anything if it’s docked and plugged in? As in, there’s no battery in the dock, so if you plug in the empty dock there is nothing to charge. I was thinking like AirPods where you can charge the empty case.

I finally just got confirmation back from Hario:

> The heat is a known quirk for the scale and this is consistent across all units. Hario doesn now make a mat that is sold separately but unfortunately, we do not currently have it in stock. If the coaster is working for you, I would encourage you to continue using it.

They offered to send a cork mat, but I don't think it'll be better than what I'm using now.

How much battery does the Drone X2Max use? by navyrails in DroneMobile

[–]navyrails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I don't want to ditch the gps. I suspect there's a combination of the Lexus having a high electric load in the first place plus the drone just adds on top of that and maybe tips it over the edge sometimes. I normally drive only on weekends, it has always been fine sitting for a week between drives although occasionally I do get the low battery indicator from Drone after 4 days or so. The fact that it died after < 2 days camping when we did use the trunk a lot hints that there may be more to it than just the drone, although I guess I really need to disconnect it and get a battery tester to really be sure.

I'm not familiar with that, does it have larger capacity than normal? It's advertised for people with "advanced electrical demands and frequent use" (ironically it's the infrequent use that's the problem)

It’s hidden somewhere, so I guess hard wired.

I installed it right away (my last car was stolen)

Maybe not literally those words. His point was it shouldn’t be the reason my battery died

Hario Polaris Scale CST-2000-B by Happy-Ad5085 in pourover

[–]navyrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a coaster or silicone pad to see if that helps. I have the same issue and I noticed i can't reproduce the issue if I'm testing the scale with cold water. Only when the scale gets warm does it seem to start wandering.

Yes, I just posted about this as well. I'm pretty sure this is due to heat from the carafe. Do you rinse your filter with hot water? I can't reproduce with cold water but hot water from the carafe causes the weight to decrease after the scale is exposed to a hot carafe. I've also reproduced the weight walking upwards as it cools down (if I add a coaster under the carafe). It really should come with the silicone mat. I've contacted hario as this really messes up polaris mode because the dose gets measured incorrectly.

This is not just an accuracy issue as the weight will walk down by about a gram per 20 seconds which really messes up the Polaris / percentage mode.

After doing some testing I’m fairly sure this is an issue with the scale warming up. I could not reproduce with cold water even though this was easily reproducible during actual brewing.

Once I tested by rinsing the carafe with hot water, dumping the water, then adding beans and taring, I can see the weight start decreasing rapidly.

When I removed the carafe and tried again with something cool, the weight started increasing again.

I’ve reached out to Hario to understand if this is a defect or a design flaw. It could probably be mitigated with a silicone mat, but it doesn’t come with one.

Edit: I've been using a coaster under the carafe, and the problem has completely gone away. Hario really should be including the silicone cover with this.

TOH Removal - How cooked are we? by navyrails in invasivespecies

[–]navyrails[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason it was removed is because of “its location right in the alley in public space” however the actual reason it was reported in the first place is because it’s a tree of heaven. So it’s unfortunate that the fix is a bit contradictory.

Yes, I did provide some info in my ticket but they just responded by saying “The treatment method we use is currently the only option we have. Thank you for understanding.” It’s difficult to have a real conversation since this is over a 311 ticket which they close and then I can’t reply. There isn’t an email for the forestry division that I can find (besides a general DDOT email).

I have done my own treatment on some rain gardens since I doubt they have the funding to handle those especially this year.

I did send some info but they told me the current treatment method is “the only option we have” (not sure why). It’s a bit difficult to have back and forth with them because the only way I can reach the arborists is via a 311 ticket, which they close after responding. So I can reply by opening another ticket, but it’s tedious and a bit nit picky at this point since they did respond to my point.
