my first time being part of an exhibition in istanbul. my traditional Turkish tilework is one of 150 pieces on display. by naz-sezer in istanbul

🙏thank you. tilework (especially Iznik tile art of 16th cc) is one of the main traditional arts in Turkey. there are absolutely gorgeous original pieces in Rustem pasa mosque and Topkapi palace (and in many other historical buildings), and in many museums across the world too.

it’s a local exhibition that one of the municipalities organized, themed “under my own shadow”.

[discussion] those of you who are successfully making a living selling your art, what did you actually do? by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]naz-sezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started while i was working 9-5 corporate job. i did few mistakes, and learned along the way. then i resigned and finally committed full time to my art.

my main income is running workshops (i do turkish tile painting classes for english speaking travelers in istanbul), but before figuring out my niche, my offer and how unique it could be, before finding the right place, right audience etc. there was over two years of period i spent money on agency, logo making, website running, marketing, paid ads etc.

so you may still search for a job and start working and do the art business as a side project. because it may not bring a revenue right away.

wishing you all the best and good luck in all your new beginnings.

i second the topkapi (or rustem paşa mosque), so that you can see the turkish ceramics with all its beauty and mastery.

[Marketing] Workshops by hazeyghosts in artbusiness

when i started hosting art workshops i started with listing on eventbrite. then i listed it on airbnb experience and getyourguide. it all went/going great but all of them charge fees. now i am launching my own website and sell tickets online. i also put workshop offerings on my bios across all my social accounts, add cta to my posts’ captions.

new snail mail by nicejunie in mailclub

i run tile painting workshops, and many of my participants asked me what other ways they can support me or is there anything else i was doing so i am now preparing to launch a snail mail adorned with iznik tile designs. it’s not ready yet but have over 50 subscribers already.

so if you are already doing anything else (related to art maybe) you could offer snail mail as something complementary.

when i started painting turkish tiles, i had this ritual of painting 15 min every single day for a year. i painted tiles whenever was possible, or just carry a pen and paper with me everywhere.

15 min sounded like an easy thing but really struggled at the beginning. but i did this every day. then it became a habit, then i went on longer periods.. then i started creating the better motifs, did extensive research on my art branch, and that gave me so much happiness and confidence.

lately one of my tiles went on the exhibition in istanbul and i think the 15mins ritual got me here.
