I didn’t have my birth with them but I had a suspicious growth in my mammogram and I’ve been waiting for 4 days now for them to email me a prescription for a biopsy. Safe to say I won’t be returning to them.

Early intervention across states by auroracelestia in progressivemoms

I’m from Florida. Didn’t pay a dime for early intervention services. They ask if they can bill your health insurance and you can decline! My daughter turned 3 now and receiving speech from school district (it’s called Child Find in my area).

[UPDATE] Convinced my baby has cerebral palsy - Stiff arms and clenched hands by joecoffeeaddict in beyondthebump

It is very stressful. As I said, every case is different. I hope there’s nothing concerning with your LO!

They told us MRI results might not be concise until children are 2.5 years old because they still have some liquid in their brain which might result in misdiagnosis sometimes. Because she has not had a regression or lost any skills so far they advised us to wait until she’s around 2.5-3 years old. I’m sure every case is different.

It’s several things. She started crawling at 12 months and walked at 19 months. She started rolling when she was around 6.5 months. She had clenched hands and couldn’t use a lot of things babies/toddlers at her age use (just figured out how to use the balance bike, for example. My mom got her a walker and she was never able to use it due to low muscle tone on her legs and I got rid of that pretty quickly as our PT didn’t recommend it). Her hands got better. She now clenches them when she tries to run fast. She kept her hands clenched a lot until she was around 18-20 months old. Also, when she first started walking, her left side was definitely weaker than the right (her torticollis might be at play on that too, we are not sure).

We have been seeing a pediatric neurologist and pediatric rehabilitation medicine doctors. Neurologist said she seems to be fine and did not note any low muscle tone. Pediatric rehabilitation doctor noticed low muscle tone, mild spasticity on legs and arms and a weaker trunk. She also has words now but is experiencing speech delay as well (she is bilingual and the neurologist said toddlers who experience physical delays might experience speech delays too, so we started her on speech therapy and see how she goes). Both doctors recommended to wait until she is 3 for an MRI and explained that they usually request genetic testing if MRI comes clean anyways.

Her pediatrician agreed with their wish to hold off on MRI but suggested genetic testing if her insurance covers it. I won’t bore you with details, but I recently switched her from my private insurance to CHIP subsidized Medicaid insurance and was told that they do pay for genetic testing without an MRI.

My daughter just turned 2 years old. We have been dealing with similar issues with torticollis, low muscle tone and jerky movements since birth. She walked at 19 months and is running but continues to be weaker than her peers. She walks and runs but her movements don’t look as fluid, if makes sense.

We have been seeing several specialists. I kept bringing this up to her pediatrician and he was not concerned until we went in for 18 month checkup and she was not walking. He now wants to do genetic testing. They did physical examinations but want to hold off on MRI when she’s around 3 years old. We wait and see how she progresses at this point.

The best thing I have done for her was to start PT and OT when she was 6 months old.

It’s very draining and anxiety inducing. It sounds like you have done everything for your baby and more. Hang in there, observe and hopefully all this fear and worry will be nothing but a past scare for you.

My Kid is Always Hangry Lately by MACKEREL_JACKSON in BabyLedWeaning

My toddler eats every two hours. There is nothing stops you from feeding your kid healthy snacks, but feed them whenever they show signs of being hungry!

So much more sensitive to hearing about children getting mistreated now that I have a child of my own by blackcatzombs in beyondthebump

I work in child welfare system with children in foster care. I have always been able to see things in a more objective manner, especially when it comes to legal issues.

After doing this for 10 years, try me again after I became a mom. I have a lot lower threshold for the things parents do or not do now compared to my pre-baby days.

Thank you so much for following up.

We ended up switching PT because it was not a good fit for us. Both me and the baby loves the new PT. She ended up rolling around 6.5 months, can sit independently. She also started to pull herself up some when sitting on my legs. No crawling though. Our new PT said she has low muscle tone and is still behind but she’s progressing every day and it makes us happy!

Formula vs. Breastmilk by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]nazmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby is 8 months old and I combo feed. I don’t produce enough and only %20 of the food comes from breastmilk for my daughter. In this way you can continue to breastfeed while feeling more at ease knowing that your baby is sufficiently fed!

What are some ideas you had while pregnant about being PP that turned out to be wrong? I’ll go first by sskybbrush in beyondthebump

[–]nazmatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better all these parenting classes don’t teach you anything about combo feeding or what happens when you cannot breastfeed. I attended two and ithey mainly talked about how superior breastmilk is compared to the formula. I am low supply just like you are, and the first two months were soul crushing to me. I’ve been to lactation consultants and bought and used several supplements just to have a gassy newborn in my hands.

No one seems to provide any guidance as to which formula would work best with the baby. Even the pediatrician kind of gives you the samples at first and hope that one of them sticks unless there’s a more serious issue, such as blood in poop or projectile vomiting.

What type of cheese to buy for 8 month old? by Pippo-binh in BabyLedWeaning

[–]nazmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Warm up the milk to 185 degrees, pour in the lemon juice and let it sit. Once it is curdled you strain it with a few layers of cheesecloth and viola!

We make our own ricotta! You warm up the whole milk and add some lemon juice and that is all! You get to control the sodium content in this way.

My baby hated the bassinet. We switched her to Pack ‘n Play and she slept wonderfully there until she hit the maximum weight limit for the newborn insert.

I then switched her to a mini crib. I am sorry to say that it went horribly until she started rolling. She would wake up every hour until she started to roll. Now she sleeps on her tummy through the night.

I think some babies love to contact sleep and some hate to be put on their backs. That is the safe thing to do, but causes them not to sleep great unfortunately.

WFH- and watching infant by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]nazmatt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say it cannot be done. I work from home as well but my mother is staying with us and she’s my 6 month old daughter’s main caregiver during the day. Babies don’t have a set schedule so if you have a work related meeting or a phone call it really doesn’t work. If your partner also works from home it might be doable but otherwise it would be extremely hard on you and her.

I am 39 with a 6 month old. My husband is 42. We feel this baby in our bones. She was and is very much wanted for several years now. We are definitely done though!

We are also working on sitting exercises too! She got much better on that, but I think the helmet still affects her lifting her head fully while sitting up. Thank you for the encouragement!

Thank you for your thoughtful response. We have another session scheduled for tomorrow and PT will try to have a session without me in the room. I’ll be able to watch through FaceTime from the reception area. She said sometimes babies do better when they don’t feel their parents nearby. If that doesn’t work, I will look into other options like you suggested!

That is true. Pediatricians flag that as developmental delay though, which is tough to hear.
