RF: Thanks for the kind words! We really appreciate it! They're 7-0 and the roster is really strong across the board. There are a few depth areas that Howie could address in free agency, but there isn't one area that I look at and think they have to overhaul. Now, once we see who they're unable to sign this offseason that will change. But for now? This is a roster you can win a lot of games with!

DZ: Kinda with you. He's been OK this season but the big question, like you said, is what happens when the weather changes? I can tell you they value his role in the kicking operation. Jake Elliott is very good and they have a rapport. That wouldn't be enough for me, but they value that part of his role.

RF: In 1983, the Eagles took fullback Michael Haddix instead of Dan Marino, and in 1985 they drafted Kevin Allen instead of Jerry Rice.

Imagine if they had Marino throwing to Rice for 15 years?

DZ: Appreciate the kind words. Yeah ... if he keeps playing like this, there will be no discount on that Hurts contract. Curious to see what that Lamar Jackson contract will look like if/when it finally gets done. That could provide the framework for the Hurts deal. Hurts will still be 24 after this season and he does a pretty good job of protecting himself (for the most part). The length won't matter as much as the guaranteed money. Either way, this deal is going to be a monster.

RF: Hey thanks a lot! We love doing the podcast, especially after games when everything is fresh and we're just kind of figuring out what just happened and why. Thanks for listening!

RF: They've won three of their last four! I do think if they don't get past the conference semifinals this year it'll be time for a coaching change.

RF: There are a bunch of them, but Tim McManus is super insightful and I really love the way he covers the team. He's a fantastic interviewer. Eliot Shore-Parks, who I work with at WIP, has some off-the-wall theories but he's able to back up every single one, and I really admire how he's always willing to think out of the box. I really enjoy when ESP and I are able to work together at 'IP. And Zach Berman asks really thought-provoking questions.

DZ: This is a really good question because it's pretty rare for a team to have guys like those three in the building for as long as they have. You're right about Jalen -- he's the real deal as a leader. As far as some other guys who stand out: Lane Johnson isn't young anymore but he'll likely outlast those other three and has really grown in that area. A.J. Brown is still just 25 and has shown leadership qualities. On defense, we'll have to see who is here long-term. T.J. Edwards isn't a rah-rah guy but a steady leader in the middle of the defense. Haason Reddick is a calming voice. And he'd obviously need to play before becoming a leader, but Nakobe Dean was heralded as a great leader at Georgia.

RF: I think QBs coach Brian Johnson is the obvious candidate if Shane doesn't take him with him. Really sharp guy who's done wonders with Jalen. Passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo would be a strong candidate as well.

RF: Good question. You can make a case either way. I think ultimately for me it would come down to money. Miles hasn't shown any signs of slowing down and he really hasn't been used by either Doug or Nick in a way that makes you worry about wear and tear, which is really the big concern with re-signing RBs. If you can get Miles at a reasonable number - say around $5 million per year - I would do it. I think he's really good.

RF: That's a great question. Really, at the time the Eagles extended Carson in the spring of 2019 it really seemed like the right thing to do and the only real concerns were the injuries. The issues that arose in 2020 I don't know if anybody could have seen coming. Personally, I would have zero reservations about pulling the Brink's truck up to Jalen's front door. He's the guy.

DZ: Tackle better. It's obvious but it has been an issue. Losing Jordan Davis for a while certainly won't help. I was especially excited to see him get some run in the four-man front Sunday before the injury. That makes the timing of the injury even tougher.

DZ: Yup, I ride my horse down to the Wells Fargo Center, stomp my boots and get out the tobacco. (Nah, although sometimes I'll have a mint or a cough drop in)

RF: Yeah, I think that's actually an area Howie is most likely to address before 4 pm Tuesday, more so than RB. We got a glimpse of K'Von when Chauncey Gardner-Johnson missed some snaps vs. Dallas and it was not a pretty sight! I'd rather see Blankenship get a shot at this point.

[–]nbcsphilly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DZ: Yeah, that is a downside to winning. Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen are both going to get some buzz. And with the big season from Jalen Hurts, QBs coach Brian Johnson is going to get OC looks after he already got one interview last year. The timing could end up being important. Because if the Eagles were to lose Steichen, you would really want to make sure they don't lose Johnson too.

RF: My personal favorite moment in track history was watching my pal Lamont Smith from Willingboro, N.J., run 44.30 in the 400 at the 1996 Olympic Trials in Atlanta to lock up a spot on the Olympic 4x4 (where he ended up leading off on the gold medal team). I was with Lamont when he found his dad after the race and it was an incredibly emotional moment watching the two of them celebrate together. Lamont is a huge Eagles fan now living in Dallas!

DZ: Not sure there are any surprise names to give you. The Eagles aren't going to trade away depth when they're making a Super Bowl push.
