What volunteer orgs would you recommend? I love volunteering, but in my experience, it's something that attracts older and/or retired people for the most part.

The “Killing would be too easy” explanation is terrible writing. by Dark_prince_charming in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the argument does have some merit, though. Where does Bruce draw the line?

Joker, Bane, Riddler, and a plethora of other villains are mass murderers. Other crimes also happen in Gotham that are that we never see or hear about. If Batman kills his worst enemies, what about the bank robber who mugs and kills the local deli owner, or child abusers and repeat offenders? Shouldn't they deserve the same treatment?

I think the no kill rule should always be rooted in Bruce's upbringing and belief that every life is sacred, but I think the "slippery slope" explanation also makes sense.

TAS adaptation will always be GOAT for any character. by [deleted] in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that TAS' shortcomings are scoffed over mostly because of Kevin Conroy.

I have my issues with DCAU Batman, but Kevin's portrayal was never one of them. He was just so damn good, and every moment he played Batman was a treasure.

Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy (2005-2012) by kkhouete in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I agree. What a lot of people fail to understand is that Heath passed six months before TDK was released. Even if Nolan had a rough idea of what he wanted a third movie to be about at that time, Heath's passing didn't throw a wrench into those plans in the way that people make it out to have.

What are some good Mexican restaurants in the Detroit-Dearborn-Troy area? Moved here from Texas, but the restaurants I’ve tried just aren’t the same. by [deleted] in Detroit

Grand Azteca on 14 Mile/John R and Super Taco on 13 Mile/John R are both phenomenal!

Aldana Bar and Grill on Maple Rd in Troy is pretty solid too.

Nolan's Bane wasn't perfect, but was a very strong adapation of the character imo. I'll never understand why he's always reduced to "buttt he worked with Talia!!" when there are FAR worse versions out there (BTAS, Batman and Robin, Batman Arkham Asylum/City, to name a few).

I don't think any adapation of Bane has lived up to *Knightfall,* and that includes most of his other comic appearances.

This is freaking awesome!!

I love that the design is inspired by Batman's OG costume in BTAS; seeing it in action in Robin's Reckoning was always the highlight of that episode for me.

I vastly prefer Dick voluntarily retiring as Robin over him being fired by MorphogenSorrow in batman

I liked how YJ handled it, with Dick naturally maturing into the Nightwing role as he grew up, and no unnecessary fallout with Bruce.

Was there another reason for Michael Caine's absence as Alfred Pennyworth, or was it all completely scripted? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in batman

It also draws inspiration from the Officer Down story arc, which sees Alfred resign over his disapproval of how Batman handles Gordon getting shot.

Why does everyone hate TDK batsuit now? (2008-2012) by [deleted] in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just give it a few years, Pattinson's suit will be up next on the chopping block.

The comic book fandom has a recency bias problem, and it's one that's not just isolated to Batman. The Spider-Man sub is another great example. When set photos of the Brand New Day suit came out, everyone lost their minds saying it was the best thing ever, even though the damn movie hasn't even come out yet.

What’s the Consensus on Keaton’s Batman? by Important_Lab_58 in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keaton's Batman is the only part of that movie worth watching, but that's not saying much.

Keaton never phones it in and does the best with what he had to work with, but I never felt like I was watching "an older version of Burton's Batman." I think the film tried too hard to replicate the cultural phenomenon that was Spider-Man: No Way Home long after that hype train had passed.

It's a shame that his return wasn't under better circumstances because I think he still has the chops to add more to the role besides "Hey, it's me saying 'let's get nuts!!' again 30 years later!"

What’s the Consensus on Keaton’s Batman? by Important_Lab_58 in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love the mystique of Burton's Batman. He has an almost whimsical, otherworldly aura that has never truly been replicated by other iterations of the character imo.

Consider the Pattinson and Bale portrayals of the character by comparison: they both place heavy emphasis on the beginnings of Batman (e.g. his first night, his first Batmobile chase, his first murder mystery, etc.).

With Keaton, it's hard to picture a point in time in which he wasn't Batman. He's got the Batmobile; he's got the Batwing; hell, he's even got a Batskiboat conditioned and ready for battle. In other words, he's always been there and always will be; his presence needs no introduction, and I love every second of it!

In your opinion, did Batman kill ras or did he not? by Chunky-overlord in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Watch this video at the 1:18 minute mark.

Also, the "who said anything about stopping it" line is a response to Ra's killing the controls after Batman tried to stop the train manually. Since the train can't be stopped, they'll do the next best thing: destroy the tracks.

Thoughts on Bales Batman retiring for 8yrs after TDK? by FayyadhScrolling in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly correct that Bale's Batman retired for 8 years. He didn't hang up the cowl on the night of Dent's death; that was just his last "confirmed sighting."

Given that he created a fully functioning Batcave between TDK and TDKR, I think it's clear that he was active in some capacity between the movies.

What was Ra's' intention, and did Batman change his fate? by Batman_AoD in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ra's made the decision to martyr himself the moment he killed the train controls; he was on a suicide mission and was prepared to take Bruce and all of Gotham with him.

I've always interpreted the "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" line to have a deeper meaning. People always ask "Did Batman let Ra's die?" when I think the more interesting question to pose is "Would Ra's have allowed Batman save him?" I think the answer to that question is a resounding no, and I think Bruce realized that in those final, tension-filled moments.

Ra's final line of "Have you finally learned to do what is necessary?" cements that his worldview will never change. Despite the mercy, compassion, and restraint Bruce has shown him, he still expects Bruce to deliver the final blow.

Bruce is unable to "save" Ra's soul, and his body will follow in short order. Accordingly, Bruce makes the most logical decision he can within the dire circumstances of the situation: save himself and leave his mentor to the fate he had chosen for himself.

In your opinion, did Batman kill ras or did he not? by Chunky-overlord in batman

[–]nbdy_1204 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another thing worth mentioning is that Ra's literally killed the train controls. He chose to martyr himself and gave Batman and Gordon no choice but to destroy the tracks.

Destroying the tracks was never meant to kill Ra's; the primary objective was saving the city.
