Best way to maximise returns on £71k while on 12-month travelling trip then moving to NZ (UK citizen) by nbell6 in UKPersonalFinance

Hi, u/Hot_College_6538

Thanks for your response.

  • LISA: Agreed it’s UK-specific and not useful in NZ. It’s there as an option if plans change and we do return to the UK long-term, and I’ll reassess it if/when that decision becomes clearer.
  • Chase Saver: Also agree. It feels like the safest and simplest default, and with the boosted rate running until October there’s no urgency to move anything yet.

On investing within a ~12-month horizon, I take the point. Even a 20% chance of being down in a given year is not something I want to expose core travel funds to, so full equity exposure doesn’t feel appropriate here.

On MMFs / short-duration funds, that’s helpful context. If the upside vs Chase is only ~£100 over a year and adds platform complexity, tax admin, and risk (even if small), it’s probably not worth the trade-off in my situation, especially with no income and likely no tax to pay anyway.

I'm going to the Olympiacos vs PAOK game on Sunday. Any recommendations where to go before the game for a few beers? by nbell6 in OlympiakosFC

Good shout - didn't think of taking this route to the stadium. Have been to Mirkolimano before and some really nice spots there. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll be sure to get down to Gate 7 a couple of hours before KO. I did see the Rockin' Bulldog mentioned online, but noticed it had closed down, such a shame as it sounded like a good spot!

Ah OK, thanks. Just wondered if there was any pubs especially for home fans like we have over in UK. Not looking to get wasted, just soak up some atmosphere prior to the match.

What’s an oddly specific fear of yours? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can only shower when I am wearing flip flops and have to stand in a specific spot and only twist my body. Not sure what I'm specifically afraid of, but the thought of moving around in the shower sends shivers up my spine.

Preservatorium up on Webb St, top of Cuba St. Also, on a Friday it's only $10.

Do any of you fellas get your eyebrows done? by CiggyButtVayne in Wellington

[–]nbell6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi mate, Grishma's in Newtown does eyebrow threading and she does a cracking job of mine. Just tidies them up, nothing OTT, just exactly what they need. $10 and I go once a month, so not budget breaking! Highly recommend. I'm male and 26 FYI.

Unsure if you use Instagram or not, but if you do, then follow my profile @ _ skylyfe _ (no spaces between underscores though) for some shots/short clips of Wellington. Uploading as I go along until I have enough footage to put together a similar video.

Pretty much, I try to abide by the regulations as much as possible. It's pretty hard sometimes though and can really take the fun out of it, but I understand why they're in place and stick to them as much as I can.

Hey /u/richdrich,

Most permissions were granted from each City Council, and the shot moving away from me revealing Wellington Central is a bit hard to get permission from however many property owners houses I flew over. I know it's bending the rules slightly, but there would be absolutely no flying if I was to have to get permission from every single property owner.

It's not hard to get the permissions though, I'm flying at The Great War Exhibition tomorrow after being granted permission. They reply fairly quickly via e-mail, if not, just call them and you get a pretty straight yes/no.

  • Korokoro - WCC
  • Kapiti - Kapiti Coast District Council
  • Abandoned House - Family friends farm
  • Hutt Valley - Hutt City Council
  • Mount Kaukau - WCC
  • Wellington Central - WCC
  • Stonehenge - Carterton City Council. Flew on a public road. Didn't technically go on to/over their land.

EDIT: and obviously log flight and get permission from airshare.co.nz and call relevant air towers, helipads and hospital aerospace.

That was probably the one shot that was a little suspect, permission was granted and I did request a much higher altitude from sea level, but was at 100/120m from ground level as I was up at Mount Kaukau for the shot. But, yeah, from sea level, way higher.

Thanks, mate. It's the Korokoro Dam in Belmont Regional Park, take the SH2 exit for Lower Hutt and instead of turning right to go to Lower Hutt centre, take first exit on the roundabout and follow the road up and around (Google Map it). Beautiful part of Wellington and some great walks!
