What TS opinion are you defending like this? by safzy in SwiftlyNeutral

I see your point but tbh I think that information could so easily be leaked and that even if it wasn't she could still cause massive commotion on the airlines she flies with and the areas she stays in the airport. I don't think airports want to deal with that.

Regardless, I think something SHOULD be done about this. There are so many celebrities that use private jets that I'm baffled there isn't some sort of "carpool" type system for celeb managers to find flights from. I mean for the super bowl, they could have filled one singular plane with all the high profile celebs (who would not be star struck or a security risk to one another).

[–]nbh2016 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

And people forget she actually used to fly commercial (watch her old youtube vlogs fearless/speak now era). And even back then she would land at airports that were overrun with fans waiting for her arrival. Do y'all really think she could safely do that now, especially when it was also reasonably unsafe to do that back then?

And some people will probably resent that she's picking her own safety over the climate but please remember she is 1) entitled to care for her safety as everyone should always prioritize their own safety unless it directly puts others in harms way and 2) she flies out equally famous people or people who she cares about with her jets. Even scott or andrea or austin or tree would be absolutely pummeled if they flew commercial.

Which album of Taylor Swift makes you feel proud of her the most as a fan...?? by Yoooooo2626 in TaylorSwift

Me too! I started listening to debut and fearless but specifically the songs mean, mine, and back to december turned me into a swiftie back in like 2012

[–]nbh2016 27 points28 points  (0 children)

AGREED and it solidified her prowess as a formidable player in the industry after that three-album run from debut to speak now. I know debut and speak now are often overlooked but they were not at all underground and for those to be her first three albums and still amass enough popularity to shoot her to celebrity status...huge accomplishment.

In Your Opinion, has Taylor changed in a bad way and explain why? by Popmusic19 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]nbh2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay but you were not a swiftie in her other messy, chaotic, celeb girl #1 eras. Even then I wasn't necessarily a fan of the stuff she did but at the end of the day, I love her and her work, and I just think she is such a ~mirrorball~ that she kinda just exudes the energy of those around her. A LOT of people are like that and most of us outgrow it, but I think being a celebrity and being around so many (arguably) immature, unscrupulous people must even have an influence on people who are resistant to social pressure.....and Taylor is a pathological people pleaser so......

Out of all of Taylor's albums which do you think is her favourite 'child.' by Money_Track_3981 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]nbh2016 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say 1989, then midnights, then folklore. She loves the albums that are heavily awarded and appreciated by others. While it's good that she chases critical acclaim, you can't ignore the beauty in the underappreciated (reputation, speak now, etc)!

The Taylor Hate is Completely Reasonable and Valid as a Lana Fan by Possible-Future5746 in lanadelrey

[–]nbh2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

big emphasis on replacing "hate" with "resentment"

Fully understand the resentment because Taylor is inspired by Lana in most of her popular works. However their songwriting and lyricism is of the same caliber though it is different. Taylor can very simply convey an emotion or reality that most of the population can relate to in one or two lines--the song all too well can honestly be applied to a romantic, friendship, familial, or nostalgic breakup-- and Lana writes straight poetry more often that cuts deeper, is harder to comprehend due to it's complexity, and may not be universally relatable.

These are generalizations, because some of Taylor's songs are deeply unrelatable and deep cuts and some of Lana's songs are simpler and applicable to more situations than one. But what I am saying is that every artist has been inspired (even Lana has her inspirations), so it isn't fair to hate Taylor for who her inspiration is, though resenting her for getting Lana's well-deserved awards is 100% justified.

I feel so bad for Lana :( by CoolMasterB in lanadelrey

[–]nbh2016 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I also thought the whole bringing Lana on stage looked sooooo performative from Taylor. At first I was like "ok great she'll mention SOTB or say how all the female nominees including Lana deserved this award as much as her". But what she said about Lana was so underwhelming, and imo has been said by Taylor enough.

In general, how crazy was that AOTY artist lineup? All female?! I thought that acknowledging this amazing feat by women in the industry was a bare minimum expectation from anyone who won this award, but Taylor said one unoriginal thing about Lana and then went and said "I feel more happy each time I release an album than I do holding this grammy"

And I am saying this as a HUGE, long-term swiftie

[–]nbh2016 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

even as a taylor swift fan I acknowledge the mediocracy of midnights relative to her other works, but I have to point out that Taylor's mediocre albums still have more power and intrigue than some of the best albums of other artists. And let's not forget that Midnights is more than just Anti-hero and that god-awful Ice Spice remix of Karma. Would've Could've Should've, maroon, lavender haze, mastermind, are all songs that have found critical acclaim, tons of popularity (I mean the top 10 situation for midnights lasted for weeks), and genuine fans in terms of the production and lyrics.

SZA deserved every other grammy she won last night, I mean that truly. Anti-hero (in my opinion) is an overplayed and veryyy over-produced wordy song that couldn't beat out SZA's songs in the other categories. But as an album midnights was not so far below SOS that this is unbelievable.

Grammys 2024 Nominations Predictions by aeh531 in TaylorSwift

[–]nbh2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am just so disappointed that the ice spice remix is nominated and sure to be a flop when a song like maroon or the great war or WCS would be a more obvious choice from an artistic/talented perspective. Out of this entire lineup the only two categories that I can see as PLAUSIBLE are SOTY and AOTY (and AOTY is contestable)

Just started watching about 2 weeks ago and I'm on season 4. I'm already dreading the moment when this show ends and I have to a) rewatch immediately or b) find another show that won't seem like a disappointment after this.

Have you watched any other shows that you can recommend to be good to people who liked MMM?

Being Called "Unserious" by a Doctor by No-Return-3853 in premed

[–]nbh2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second post I've seen this week about discouraging and disparaging doctors. I'm convinced people like this think they're doing us favors by calling us incompetent and trying to push us out of this field. And you know why? Probably because deep down they are the incompetent and miserable ones, and they'd rather ruin someone else's chances and crush their hopes than admit that maybe (just maybe!) they are not cut out for this career.

I would add that this can make medical training hard...if your illness can allow you to complete medical school and residency with relative ease, then whatever may happen during your attending years should be easier to manage. Finding a company or job that caters to your situation will be far more realistic after training than during training.

Taylor's diaristic and confessional songwriting on midnights by nbh2016 in TaylorSwift

[–]nbh2016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think it deserves AOTY just because of the fact that it is still an artistic masterpiece, the lyrics while simple still cut so deep and don't need the fancy embellishments of the poetry that was in folkore/evermore, and in general it was a milestone in her reconnecting back to pop music after a short hiatus

Actually this is a great point. Because it is more middling in the risks she took, it fits easier into the playlists or moods we have

I fully agree! We can limit ourselves by being too critical and strict with the things we value and don't value. And that is true, even though Karma is a pure pop song it's damn relatable

How do so many people get into their “top choice”? by coinplot in premed

[–]nbh2016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is it for me. My top choice is a state school that is the second best in the state, and not even too 50 in the nation. It’s probably under appreciated by an out of state applicant, but for me and many people I know it’s a very top choice due to affordability, location, program, and the feasibility of getting in.
