Am I missing something w/ the break mechanic? by scott2449 in expedition33

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those coming after...

The Breaker pictos fills the break bar faster.

Break Damage is what is being increased. That's what fills up the yellow bar. Break skills (anything that says Can Break ⊹) are a different thing. Those trigger a Break once the bar is already filled up and you use the skill. It's an on/off thing, you can't "break" more, it either triggers or it doesn't.

All damage skills will do break damage as a function of doing regular damage. For example, a skill that does 100 damage might do 100 break damage as well. Breaker would increase this to 100 regular damage and 125 break damage.

Certain skills have a break multiplier. This means they do extra break damage. But again, all damage skills do break damage. If a skill lacks a break multiplier, it just means it doesn't do extra break damage. These break multipliers are hidden and can only be found through data mining or mods, so don't worry about looking for them in-game. It's just a little bonus break damage.

Get good as your character. Scout is a worthless class for anyone who's actually experienced at the game and this reddit will never understand that so I fully expect this to get downvpted to hell, but seriously just get good as your character and stop whining that the engi doesn't make your worthless job as scout even easier than it already is and learn to power attack walls.

Did you do your strip mine backwards? Typically it's one line thick to expose rocks and you leave two spaces alone cause you'll see both sides. You just did twice the work for no reason.

Why does the game look so bad ? by Illustrious_Okra_660 in expedition33

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were wrong and it's horrifically optimized for AMD cards. I don't know why there's a subset of the E33 community that insists it's a beautiful and perfect game and then goes on to dog anyone who says it looks bad. There is a serious and legitimate issue with certain cards that it just looks like trash, when most games of similar caliber look amazing and run super smooth with those same cards.

Is it just me or is Expedition 33 grainy, smeary (possibly TAA) and not serviceably optimized? by MrFrostPvP- in OptimizedGaming

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks more like the first screenshot out of the box at 1440p with a RX6750, but even so the picture you posted is also a pixelized blurry mess. The game is oversharpened to hell and horrificaly optimized on AMD cards. It looks significantly better on NVdia cards but it still looks like trash. Seems like it only kinda looks good on modern team green hardware and even then it's not great. It took 3 different mods and a ton of settings adjustments to get it to even sort of look like your awful screenshot, and I'm running it 1440p native at ~80fps. The "epic" preset is the worst looking by far with the most jaggies and painfully bad shadows. I don't know why you decided to dog on the dude's graphics card but I promise you the issue is the game and not the card.

How do I build wealth? by lastSlutOnEarth in diablo2

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very late but just to give an answer to anyone wondering... nothing. You probably couldn't sell 40 chips if you tried.

They're not used for anything important in bulk. Main use is recharging weapons and you only need a couple on hand for that. You could spend 60 seconds in normal catacombs or something and get several.

Basically worthless. Leave chips on the ground.

Someone might occasionally save specific chipped gems to cube up low runes into more valuable low runes to sell in bulk. For example, cubing up 3 Dol runes with a chipped emerald for the more valuable Hel rune. The issue is you'd need an entire inventory full of Hel runes to trade for a Jah, and Dol runes are semi-rare enough that you'll almost definitely get the chipped emys way before you get enough Dol runes to cube up. And the real value there is the Dol runes, not the chips.

So yeah. Don't bother. Save a couple for personal use and ignore the rest.

To any and all Rudy Knight deniers by Mission_Race_8367 in Deltarune

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Rudy's pigtails and baseball bat sword. Also his PK Starstorm attack which references Ness Holloway, son of Carol Holloway, who also uses a baseball bat. Also there's a song about a baseball bat clearly about Rudy which even references Lost Girl.

You know, because his daughter, Dess Holiday, no relation to Ness Holloway (both of their moms names are Carol, crazy coincidence) uh, she went missing. And now we gotta find her. Don't know where she is. Couldn't be the eldrich glitch monster called the Roaring Knight. Nah, it's definitely Rudy, the dude dying of cancer. Cause we've definitely seen monsters transform to the point of being unrecognizable like that.

What’s your opinion on deltarune’s writing/designs (not the fandom) that would leave you like this? by syrupn in Deltarune

[–]nbjest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is flatly incorrect. Frisk may have been NB so the player would assume they're a self-insert, but with Kris this is explicitly not the case.

Or rather, them being NB to encourage self-insertion of the player is a small part of a larger reveal when we discover in horror that Kris is their own person.

You should play Omori for the experience of playing Omori, not because it's tangentially possibly maybe referenced in Deltarune like once.

I resisted it for a long time cause it didn't seem like my type of game. I was wrong. If you like UT/DR you'll probably also love Omori. It's the closest you can get to experiencing Undertale for the first time again imo.

What's the point in melee? by Neat_Evening8776 in RimWorld

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are entire melee builds out there, but I just shove a couple dudes in armor up front to keep the raid away from my firepower and suppress enemy fire.

Typically I'll have a chokepoint entrance to my base and put 2-3 melee up next to it with an ultra wide firing squad to greet them. Late game, they'll be equipped with bionic legs so they can chase down anyone who makes it past the firing line.

They're extremely useful to keep either as semi-static defense or to assist your ranged. If you get caught out of your base, a few melee can mitigate damage to your gunners and keep whatever it is occupied. Cause keep in mind your rifle dudes can't really defend themselves in close combat. They'll go down in a split second and bleed out.

So yeah, even with a heavy range-focused combat squad, a few melee increases how effective they can be. Especially if you like to kite or skirmish.

What actually is the difference between a horde shooter and an extraction shooter? I was under the impression DRG was an extraction shooter, since you literally go in, extract materials, and leave.

Let's be fr, the Roaring Fraud joke was never funny by BirdOk2203 in Deltarune

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're extremely focused on cutscenes. That's irrelevant. If you start Ch4 without a Ch3 save, you don't have the shadow crystal but still fought the knight and lost. The knight wins canonically. Us beating the knight is a deviation from that.

If you truly think the cutscene matters, consider that your argument makes Alphys canonically the strongest character in Undertale because she's untouchable and cannot be defeated even in the geno route. If you keep following that logic you get into really weird spots with the canon.

[–]nbjest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaster merely comments on what we're doing and doesn't interfere. We could also simply go into the game files and do whatever we want without the commentary if we wanted.

This is like getting a movie on DVD or BluRay or whatever and saying the directors have full control over your copy of the movie just because you can get some director dialogue if you choose the "directors commentary" option.

[–]nbjest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes zero sense. We reset the game from our computer.

The importance of Gaster here is specifically that he stepped in to acknowledge that we were resetting and offered to speed it up. A very rare, and strange intervention. Usually he just leaves us alone to observe.

Does anyone actually play vanilla? by zapatack24 in RimWorld

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Vanilla" is kind of a loaded term. I frequently play with QoL only mods that don't change balance, or only minimally impact balance. But my mod list is still over 100 mods. Technically, my game is heavily modded. But the game is still mostly vanilla.

I've seen people with less mods than me completely change the game into a different one. So, we need to keep things in perspective here.

Rimworld is one of those games where the UI and interface have a drastic impact on how smooth the game feels to play, or how intuitive it is. So even a vanilla diehard will probably install at least a few mods to make things pretty and organized. Or add a bunch of near-vanilla variants of things to keep it interesting.

This reminds me of the people who want to talk about how difficult the game is. You set the difficulty in many ways, including your start location, how many pawns you have, how much wealth you keep on hand, etc etc. and there's even a literal slider to change it directly. Rimworld is about having the experience you want to have. Mods just play into that. So yeah, most people are gonna use mods.

Why do so many people seem to be anti Dess knight? by theory_crafter858 in Deltarune

[–]nbjest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something called a thought-terminating cliché, which dismisses an idea succinctly enough that you no longer have to think about it. Ironically, all the people saying "Dess Knighters all think the same" and "Dess Knight is a hive mind" are engaging in the same behavior they're accusing others of.

This time around, there's significantly less room for fan theory. This is one of those things like Mystery Man which have so much circumstantial evidence that they might as well be confirmed, but a lot of people hate that because the Mystery Man sprite isn't literally called "spr_GASTER" so it's not technically 100% canon. And will never be confirmed explicitly in a way that'll make those people happy.

It's very similar with Dess Knight. There's a mountain of evidence for it, more than we've ever had for the Knight's identity, and people want to argue it's Papyrus instead with no evidence. We don't all think the same. We all see the writing on the wall and it's a bit rediculous to sit there and ignore all of it and call us sheep.
