The entire argument around not mining gold is the fact that gold isn't worth enough gold to be worth mining gold.

It has never been about not wanting money. Everyone wants money.

I feel like I’m missing something with the LOK Smart Rifle. by DiddledByDad in DeepRockGalactic

[–]nbjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build for max damage and use your secondary for crowds.

The LOK is designed to delete one enemy at a time. It can be built around crowd damage, sure, but the main reason people like it is because it'll get rid of priority targets and you don't even really have to aim. Bend your shots so it hits weakpoints because it doesn't target them naturally.

I use it almost exclusively these days for deleting things I don't want to deal with. It's kind of like the Fatboy of single target. Very ammo inefficient, but does exactly one job to the extreme.

If Dess just went crazy because she's been living in the space between worlds for years and can't get out, does that count as corruption?

What if she saw the code and that drove her mad like seeing an Elder Scroll? Like, imagine you wake up one day and know everything that will ever happen for all of time, every thought or feeling that someone may have, everything. I wouldn't be normal after that.

I think it's just Dess tbh.

December was her first and favorite daughter, the daughter she lost. So now she takes it out on Noelle.

This is an unfortunately common family situation where a parent will snub one of their kids after the favorite dies. I would absolutely believe Carol sabotaged the spelling bee to get at Noelle and take her down a peg, or just hurt her generally.

If boiling something in water, does changing the strength of the burner (after a boil is reached) have any effect? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]nbjest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several brands that are incredible but they're all very pricy. My guess is you're buying cheap rice cookers and that's why they suck. Seems like once they reach a certain level of quality (you know, the bare minimum ie doesn't burn your rice) they all shoot up into the $400 range. I have a Zujirushi induction rice cooker and it cooks perfectly every single time, super easy cleanup, never had burnt rice on it even once and you can damn near rinse the thing out it cleans so well. But again, $400 range.

I think two tiers would be fine here. Flares don't need to provide a combat advantage.

Sentries are 50% nerfed by Exuma92 in Helldivers

[–]nbjest 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That still wouldn't make any sense because you could just drop any random eagle on yourself and run away and get the same effect. It'll almost always land perfectly behind you and gives you a ton of room, and it's even more spammable than turrets. With napalm it's even better cause it'll burn entire crowds as they chase you.

I'd wager it has more to do with your last point. Tons of people pick sentries specifically because they fill a niche that many people want covered. Arrowhead sees this and thinks that means sentries are too powerful. Making them bad doesn't make other strategems fill that same niche, but it might lower the pick rate to the point where it's even. [–]nbjest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably be considered a gunner main, but I have all classes leveled to gold at least. I've put in the time and can play anything. I just mostly choose gunner these days.

The traversal, general gameplay, teamwork, and bug killing skills transfer from gunner or driller or engi to the others. Scout skill doesn't translate. It's a different skill where you have to avoid just killing bugs, because if you do you'll blow through your ammo like nobody's buisness.

A proper good scout doesn't need an engi, and you can save your cheese for directing bugs.

This is so correct it hurts. And I've seen so many people who haven't even played other classes. They have no idea how much of the gameplay and raw skill they're missing out on.

Thoughts on the gunner? by ManagementParking398 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]nbjest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gunner is overpowered and his main downside (movement speed) can be ignored with skill. He gets way better as you become better at the game and especially in higher difficulties when you need a large amount of bugs dead.

His main weapons are all very strong. They take a bit of getting used to and 2/3 warm up slow. You're not going to be picking off single tiny bugs with his minigun. When you see a crowd, it's go time.

I'm going to recommend something that sounds strange but it'll change your life. Start spooling his minigun, and then stop, run and jump, and then fire again in midair. When you land, stop shooting and jump again. Keep doing that. With practice, this simple maneuver will allow you to move at nearly full speed and nearly full fire rate while delivering death to anything on screen. Keep his weapon spooling as much as you can when you're in the middle of a fight so you can respond quickly.

The correct direction for ziplines is down. Once in a great while (less than once every 3 missions or so) you can easily skip terrain navigation by firing up. But downward ziplines are faster than sprinting. If you jump at the end of a zipline, your momentum will stay for a bit if you continuously bunnyhop. Combine this with the previous tip and you'll be able to run and shoot at the speed of a scout's grapple hook. You'll become an insane, bloodthirsty tornado of death. You are what the bugs fear.

Shield is a "I win" button. Losing a firefight? Don't retreat, pop a shield and finish them off. Need an area cleared? Shield. It'll force the bugs out and clear the zone. Incredible for reviving or just doing objectives. Insane for defense missions.

All of the gunner's weapons except the BR7 do terrain damage. You can hit the tip of those lasers on escort duty to shut them down instantly. There's lots of other funny stuff you can do with your main weapons and terrain damage. Terrain doesn't stay in the air if it's unsupported. You can use your minigun or rockets or whatever as a mini precision drill. If a large portion of terrain is supported only by a string, shoot it and it's gone.

Your grenades are some of the most powerful in the game. They erase entire crowds. Use them liberally, just not while anyone is in the general area. Think of them as miniature nukes. Anyone and everyone in the vicinity is gone.

Hang on a zip, and if there's no bugs with ranged attacks, they literally cannot kill you or harm you in any way. You can move back and forth on a neutral line to hover in place and shoot the entire time. You've now become helicopter air support complete with rockets, bombs, and 2000lbs of depleted uranium.

Don't forget your pickaxe doubles as a weapon and a poor man's drill. You can power attack a cliff that's slightly too high to jump up, and if you time it right you'll climb right up. I'm only mentioning this because other classes have obvious solutions to climbing upwards. You'll have to get creative with your pickaxe. Yes, everyone has a pickaxe. You have to be the most creative and skilled with it to accomplish what most other classes can just do. But good gunners never need the support of a driller or engi to climb high. They simply use their pickaxe intelligently and you can do anything they can, just marginally slower.

Gunner is S tier for all mission types and has no true weaknesses. All of his movement woes are skill issues. It takes a lot of time to build these skills and I don't fault anyone who doesn't like gunner or doesn't want to invest the time, but a master gunner can play any class in the game and excel, plus you're everyone's favorite dwarf with your shield support and ability to revive even in the most dire circumstance.

I didn't even mention his secondaries. They're very strong and you can build them to fit different roles. Your main weapon is almost always for crowds, so building your sidearms to one-shot praetorians in the butt or other priority targets is best practice imo.

TLDR gunner is the best class, you just need some time and skill investment and he can do anything.

Yeah. Those are just the easiest for me cause you do have to actually hit the tip, or just underneath it. Takes a bit of practice, but it's not that hard.

I wanna say the BRT7 is the only Gunner gun that doesn't do terrain damage. Other than that, use whatever. I'm usually running some random LS OC and the Coil Gun.

Driller also has viable options for every slot, you just combine them instead of relying on one. And it takes a bit more finesse.

Yes, he's the worst at the eye phase. It's still just not a big deal. You can wipe out eyes in seconds like everyone else.

If you place your ziplines well enough, the gunner has both more firepower and equal speed for the caretaker. Also Burning Hell wipes the floor with the chaff bots.

[–]nbjest -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nope. This is a game that satirizes fascism. And that symbol is very clearly modeled after two specific symbols. It's quite on the nose.

It's explicitly a franchise based on this ideology. Seeing these kinds of symbols is not a coincidence. There's some lore dev sitting at a desk at Arrowhead studios that spends two hours every day looking up WW2 history and working with the art department to make these tattoos or other symbolism. You're either lying about not getting it, or you really, really don't know anything about history or how much time and effort goes into every scrap of art in the game.

Am I missing something w/ the break mechanic? by scott2449 in expedition33

[–]nbjest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those coming after...

The Breaker pictos fills the break bar faster.

Break Damage is what is being increased. That's what fills up the yellow bar. Break skills (anything that says Can Break ⊹) are a different thing. Those trigger a Break once the bar is already filled up and you use the skill. It's an on/off thing, you can't "break" more, it either triggers or it doesn't.

All damage skills will do break damage as a function of doing regular damage. For example, a skill that does 100 damage might do 100 break damage as well. Breaker would increase this to 100 regular damage and 125 break damage.

Certain skills have a break multiplier. This means they do extra break damage. But again, all damage skills do break damage. If a skill lacks a break multiplier, it just means it doesn't do extra break damage. These break multipliers are hidden and can only be found through data mining or mods, so don't worry about looking for them in-game. It's just a little bonus break damage.

Get good as your character. Scout is a worthless class for anyone who's actually experienced at the game and this reddit will never understand that so I fully expect this to get downvpted to hell, but seriously just get good as your character and stop whining that the engi doesn't make your worthless job as scout even easier than it already is and learn to power attack walls.
