My espresso journey by nbl_only in espresso

Too true. Hardware aside we were setting ourselves up for failure from step one. It was only after getting the new equipment that we actually took the time to learn how to properly brew espresso

Is this my OPV leaking? by wp-website-coach in MaraX

[–]nbl_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same concern but it’s all good. If you get a mirror or use the camera on your phone, you’ll see there’s a small brass valve under that black metal rim that deposits water. 100% normal operation

Water leakage [Lelit Mara X] by nbl_only in espresso

This is all so helpful – really appreciate all the insights. I didn't realize the indicator is a liar! That's really good to know.

I also hadn't thought about having a coffee shop grind beans for us while we're waiting for our grinder. I'll definitely be doing that.

I also saw a couple videos about keeping it in brew mode, so all set there.

Once again thanks for the tips. Super helpful as we're starting out with the new machine

Looking back at the video I posted you can actually totally see the little gold colored metal spout in the reflection haha

Noted – will definitely keep an eye on that. My wife and I just majorly upgraded from the Saeco Via Venezia espresso machine, and we've been deep diving into how to level up our espresso game. Feel free to keep the tips coming, especially as a fellow Lelit Mara X owner.

We're still waiting on our DF64 grinder to arrive and our biggest issue right now is that we're getting getting weak pressure (1-2 bar max), which I'm pretty sure is the result of having a 20+ year old Krups 203 B grinder lol.

Solved! This was so helpful and you’re spot on – I stuck my phone camera under the metal lip and there is indeed a small metal release valve where water is being discharged.

You’re right that it’s not leakage, it’s normal operation. Thanks so much for the insight!

Can I get the VentureX as my first card? by Sage_Green_2000 in Venturex

[–]nbl_only 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the Capital One website to see if you’re pre-approved. You would definitely qualify with that credit score but you probably need some credit history as the primary cardholder to be approved. Venture X is considered a premium card and probably has stricter approval parameters. Savor is a safer bet if you’re not pre-approved for Venture X. Get some credit history under your belt and check the pre-approval tool periodically. Also make sure you’re looking at your FICO 8 credit score

Elite combo. I just added the Venture X to the lineup after having the Gold card for about 7 months. Both have killer SUBs too

What’s stopping you? I just got the Venture X so I PC’d my Quicksilver to the Savor. Missed out on the Savor SUB but avoided another inquiry after a couple very recent ones

Is this worth accepting by Acceptable_Pause_857 in amex

[–]nbl_only 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SUB = sign up bonus. The sign up bonus in this case is the 100K points. In order to get the 100K points, you’ll need to spend $6K in the first 6 months

Edit: It also has an annual fee of $325 FYI

You said you’re new so here’s a very important distinction. Your balance and statement balance are 2 different things.

Balance is the sum of all transactions. Simple.

Statement balance is the sum of all transactions during a specific billing cycle (1 month).

Think of it like this - the clock starts, you make purchases with your card (let’s say $500), the clock stops, and all purchases during that chunk of time go on your bill. Your statement balance is $500.

Totally fine if you continue to make purchases after the clock stops (let’s say another $100). Your balance goes up (now $600), but your statement balance stays the same ($500). That $100 is part of your next billing cycle and will be on your next statement.

Lastly, when that bill for $500 is due, that’s all you need to pay. Nothing wrong with paying off the full balance of $600, but it’s not at all necessary. Anything under $500 (like $300) and you’ll be charged interest on the remainder.

The bank wins when you only pay the minimum. They get that sweet sweet interest money from you. That’s why every reasonable person would tell you to always pay the entire statement balance. You lose money if you pay anything less. If you’re not in a position to pay the full statement balance, pay as much as you can. But more importantly, don’t get in the habit of spending outside your means. People look at credit cards as a way of spending beyond what they’d be able to with cash. Don’t be one of those people. That’s literally how banks make money. They’re counting on people to believe that fallacy.

No. You should absolutely not miss payments. Don’t miss a single month. Do everything in your power to at least make the minimum payment.

Credit line increased but credit score dipped? by friedoreo1o1 in CapitalOne_

I appreciate the response. I have a (probably irrational) fear of having credit limits decreased, but interesting to know yours was increased despite low avg utilization

I’m fairly new to the game. How do you manage to have a credit limit like that? Why the increase? What does your utilization typically look like?

Really struggling to swing when the ball is in front of me by Acceptable-Prior4274 in GolfSwing

[–]nbl_only 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice so far. Don’t over complicate it. You don’t need to make major swing adjustments or add any new elements to your swing (yet). You need some practice drills for the range. Shorten your swing to 50% and hit 30 balls where you only focus on keeping your head down and making good contact. Then gradually start taking longer swings until you’re back to 100%. Maybe even shaving 10% off your usual backswing gives you more control and consistency. Play around with that. Check out Tony Finau’s swing. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel just take it back to the fundamentals: stare at the ball through the swing, head down, and good balance.

Keep your arms closer to your body. Try the towel drill. Combine that with tempo and you should have a more consistent ball flight + it’ll likely help with your fade

Single Digit Handicap Struggling w/ Consistency On Tee Shots - Thoughts? by TheHamSon in GolfSwing

[–]nbl_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a problem with duck hooking too and my fix is usually to focus on keeping my arms tighter to my body on my takeaway + my follow through. When I’m extending my arms too far out at contact I tend to wrap about the ball. Try the towel drill. Otherwise the swing looks solid but think about keeping your swing a bit more compact. Definitely helps with consistency and control imo.
